Hello! long time no see smile.gif

My wife has her greencard and everything is going great. We are living in Baltimore, she is working and things couldn't be better.

However, Ania is planning her first trip back to her home country and we have a few questions. Ania has her Greencard which is in her married name. She also has an advanced parole which is in her married name also. She does not have a US passport and her Polish passport in in her maiden name.

What do we need to do?

Is it ok to travel on this? or do we need to get an us passport?

AP is meaningless since you have the greencard

Carry a copy of the document that legally changed her name (marriage certificate?)

Book all tix in the name that she will use as her ID for the airlines/TSA ID checkers... most likely her passport name.

She does not have a US passport because she is not yet a US citizen

Two choices: 1) get a new Polish passport with her new married name. You will encounter no name issues at the border if everything matches up. 2) book the ticket in the name on her old, valid Polish passport. At the border, present the passport, green card and a copy of your marriage certificate. Anecdotal evidence on VJ says this should work, but it is always at the discretion of the officer.

Your wife cannot get a US passport as she is not a US citizen. She also no longer needs the AP as she is now a permanent resident. Hope this helps. smile.gif

Any tickets MUST be booked in her legal name as it appears in her passport. If her passport and green card have 2 different names, she should carry with her a photocopy of your marriage certificate.

Just to clarify - in option 2 above you book the ticket in her maiden name. So as far as the airline is concerned there is no complication. The only time she needs to show her marriage cert with her green card to the US immigration authorities on the way back in to the US.

Yep -- ticket must match the name on the passport. Sorry if I was a bit unclear there!
