hello! american here!
i have a quick question or two.
every year my parents claimed me on thier taxes, including this last tax year. i always lived at home and just had little jobs, and then nannied and got paid in cash under the table. i now have started a job where i make enough money to support my canadian boyfriend and we would like to get married. however.... my tax stubs in the past are unavailable, and i get paid under the table at my job now. will a job verification work?? or no?

When you say "under the table" do you mean you don't report your income and your employer doesn't take out taxes? Because that might be a problem if you get a work verification but can't prove your income.
Perhaps your parents would co-sponsor and show proof of their income?

sadly no, my parents are not able to co sponsor.

i have every intent of reporting this income but i don't have a way to show tax stubs on it yet.
btw, if we got married now, how long do we have until we have to send off for his green card? could we wait until i pay taxes??
thanks for the help!

Well, if you got married now, then you'd have to file a K3 for a spousal visa. And you'd still have to show proof of income. I'm not sure how important that is until you file for AOS. I make enough money for my fiance, but I don't even know if the consular officer cared. He just wanted to know why my daughter wasn't claimed on my taxes (her dad and I trade years).
Have you gone through the guides and FAQs yet? They may answer a lot of your questions and help you decide which route to take.
Good luck!

Pardon my bluntness, but you and more importantly your employers are quite possibly breaking the law. They most likely should be paying a portion of you Social Security contribution (above and beyond your salary) and you should be having income taxes withheld. Did you know that if you don't make much money, you may get a refund of that withholding when you file? Did you know working people (25 or older)who are in certain low income situations actually get money from the government (earned income credit). This is money you didn't even pay in. It's kinda like a bonus for working. I don't know your age or income, and taxes have many variables, but if you're mature enough to be thinking of marriage, then you should consider being a grown up and quit the "under the table" tactics. This is just my shred of advice. I don't mean it as a personal attack. I just think you should get your ducks in a row before you take on the scrutiny of the Federal government with an immigration petition. You can't tell government officials the truth about your income or it could come back to haunt you. I'm glad you said you want to start reporting your income. Your parents as co-sponsors is probably the best solution at this time. I'm sorry they can't help you. Good luck to you and your boyfriend.

^ you're right, you DON'T know what i do. i truly don't appreaciate the things you said about my maturity either. i came here for help, not scrutiny.
maybe i should be more clear. i work for tips. not under the table. i do not get a check. i had no problem getting my apartment with the work verification, i was just curious to know if this was okay or not for the k3 app.
i also needed to know how long you had until you HAD to file for the k3, because this way i would have taxes paid and therefore, proof of income.

i don't mean to be snappy but today was possibly one of the worst days i've ever had. i thought i had everything planned out but i was beyond wrong. if you're on this site then you should know how i'm feeling.

Tips or Salary, both are acceptable.
Just use your pay slip that shows your income (tips).

I'm very sorry. I just wanted you to really look at your whole picture and make a good plan so your K1 process goes smoothly without any RFEs or refusals. It's better to have a great plan going in, than dig yourself out of a hole later.
Again, best wishes and good luck.
