So, after a 3.5 month wait, 3 office visits, 3 phone calls and a notable loss of sanity I finally found someone human enough to listen and resolve my name change issue at the federal plaza SSA office in NYC (after my original experience when applying for my original SSN card last year at my local office I have given up even considering speaking with them).

It seems, despite issuing my EAD, permit to travel and greencard in my married name USCIS have not updated the SAVE or whatever it is database they use from my maiden name. The helpful SSA clerk told me 'Immigration is a mess, this is no surpirse but it is no problem - I'll just over ride it in our system' and what do you know, 3 days later I received a lovely new SSN card complete with my correct married name.

My question now is this: I want to go and apply for my learner permit at the DMV here next week, are they going to have ths same issue when they check my docs? I really cannot face waiting around for another infopass appointment, especially given how last time they told me 'it is the other agency's problem, our records are fine' by the ever helpful USCIS

This whole immigration experience just gets more fun by the day... wacko.gif

Thanks for any advice!
