Just to play catchup as I've not updated my profile yet, I am an Irish girl who got married to a USC 3 weeks ago and we are just now filing the paperwork. I have a question about the I-131 and that is this, I am concerned that I may have to travel back to Ireland before our interview as my father is 84 and ailing and I want to make sure that should something happen, I can be there.

I have read through the supporting documentation and as far as I can tell it is a single Advance Parole I need to be applying for and not a Re-Entry Permit but what I am wondering is that in Part 3 'Processing Information' section I need to specify an intended date of departure which will be hard as I'm hoping I won't need to go back, it's just a precaution and so, do I only file for an AP if I am definitely going back or should I file it along with the I-485 etc in the eventuality that I do need to use it.

Also, in Part 7, it asks to include on a seperate sheet of paper why I qualify to be granted this form (answer: that I married a USC and am filing an I-485 concurrently) and what circumstances warrant this AP (in case I need to return for any family emergency while my application is pending), is this sufficient or does anyone know if they are looking for something more?

Was or is anyone in the same situation and how and when did you go about filling out the form?

Yes, you want to apply for advance parole. Why ask for a single trip when multiple trips would give you more flexibility?

'To be determined' or an estimated date(s) of travel are appropriate answers for the question about intended date of travel if such answer is consistent with the stated purpose of travel.

I too have an elderly parent and requested - and received - a multiple AP. I wrote time ' undetermined' in the date of use and then explained on a separate sheet that my remaining parent - my father - is elderly and while currently is in good health, change happens quickly and I wished to have the opportunity to return to my home country as quickly as possible if required. My mother did pass away 3 years ago from a condition that was not expected to be fatal and only went into hospice a week before she died (and yes, I included that information as well) and I would be devastated if I had to choose between saying goodbye to my father and keeping my right to live with my husband in the US. I received my AP and my renewal APs with no problems. I filed my first AP application with my AOS application and the renewal a year later. So, definitely explain you have an elderly parent and you wish to keep your options open of flying to his bedside on short notice.

I'm deeply sorry for your loss and thank you so much for you help on this question. It too is a fear and I know how you feel. I hope that neither of us have to use the travel documents for this purpose. Your help is greatly appreciated.
