Another question.....

So my husband filed his tax return about 6 weeks ago and we were unsure if they had recieved it because he had heard nothing. So he phoned the IRS in philladelphia after trying for days to reach the one in London with no success.
They have recieved it but we will not recieve anything from them to confirm this as he is not getting a refund etc. So what do you take to the interview to confirm that he has been filing his taxes?

You get a transcript from the IRS:

Isn't a transcript just the same as copies you have yourself? I have e-filed the last few years and just sent my 2007 taxes in yesterday. I have the copies from this year, last year, and 2005. I hope that is ok because its all I have.

A transcript is actually better than the copies you have yourself - it details all the information on your tax return, W2s, etc. and is an official document from the IRS. Can't get much better than that!

A transcript is different, but copies of your return are acceptable.

I just sent in the signed copies of my 1040. Seemed to work as Nicky got approved today!
