Don't think I have asked this question and I am wondering about the DMV in Virginia. I have all the paperwork ready to go to the DMV and was reading it over and I can't quite get it. The DMV says I will have to pay 3% motor vehicle sales tax and use tax and a registration fee and a titling fee. My question is it seems unclear if I have to pay the 3% tax (I have my orginial sales contract showing I paid the sales tax) but of course that was in Canada, are they going to ding me here too? It says if you can prove you paid the sales tax you don't have to pay but it mentions in another state, which is why I am a bit confused.

Not being from Va. I've no personal experience, and it's not 100% clear from their web site as to "do you, or don't you have to pay" - it looks like you do...

An update just in case anyone is wondering how this played out. I did not have to pay the 3% sales tax.
