hi everyone
i got my ssn last week..
and today i went to open a bank account..
and they typed in my ssn...but the screen said "this SSN is not yet issued"
how come?
Just a guess, but I'm assuming your SSN was issued from a Group number that just started to be used or the bank is using an old list.
The SSN consists of Area-Group-Serial (AAA-GG-SSSS):
http://www.ssa.gov/employer/ssnweb.htmThe High Group list shows the highest Group number within each Area that is in the process of being assigned and is normally updated monthly. Some businesses use the High Group list to determine if an SSN is valid. The bank may be using an old High Group list or your SSN was assigned from a Group within your SSN Area that has recently begun to be assigned.
If your number has an * next to it on the April list, it's a Group that just started to be used and the bank is using old info. If it's not on the April list, hopefully it will be on the next list.
You can find links to the current and previous months High Group lists on the SSA Website at:
