Hello everyone.

I am a citizen of the United Stated and so is my Fiance. We are getting married in July and she would like her Aunt to come to the wedding. Her Aunt is a citizen of Tehran in Iran.

Her parents would sponsor their sister but their income is not sufficient.

They asked me to sponsor them and I was in the middle of filling out the form but I noticed it ask for tax returns if you are self employed. As you may know you can write off many things when you are self employed so my tax returns do not show a very high income either (around 35k/yr). I do have a good amount of money in my savings, checking, and business accounts though.

So my question is:

Should I be the sponsor of my Fiances aunt? If so, will my tax returns be sufficient?

If not me, then who would be the best candidate to insure that they are granted the visa?

Any other tips for getting a visa for a Citizen of Iran to come to the U.S.?

Unless things have changed the person applying for the tourist visa must qualify on their OWN.

You can show a bank statement showing lots of money in a savings account - I did that for my nephew's student visa (he is applying from India) - I put a year's worth of money in a savings account and showed that on the I-134 along with other assets like house and mutual funds. His interview is next week so I will know if it worked or not. (I was advised by the Foreign Student adviser that it works best when its done this way - yes I argued that he won't be paying his tuition at once but every semester etc. but did what she suggested. edited to add: He still needs to show ties to his country so they are convinced he would be coming back - similar for the tourist visa.

Yes her Aunt has everything setup on her side. I was just worried about our side. As I asked on top, will my tax returns be sufficient? Can I not give tax returns but show large savings and bank accounts? Any other tips?

When someone applies for a tourist visa what you earn has nothing to do with it.... you can not sponsor a tourist so you do not need to provide tax returns or anything else... the person who is applying has to prove that they have links to their home country and will return there after a visit.... they are not interested in you....

So we do not need the i-134 form? We were instructed that we did which is why I was filling it out.

An I-134 is not needed for a tourist visa... that is only needed for a K1 or non immigrant visa...

This is confusing - a friend of mine asked me to fill out an I134 for him to get his tourist visa. I filled this also for my nephew for his student visa (he was approved on Tuesday). Both times I sent these for visas at Indian consulates (Bombay and Delhi).
Apparently the immigration attorneys recommend this in India. My nephew felt that showing the I134 was what clinched the visa for him (he thought the examiner was questioning his reasons to go to USA to study (especially film making and why in Colorado)) but when he gave her the I134 - she seemed to be acceptable of it and approved him. Maybe in some countries' the US consulates have their own reasons for wanting these documents. Good Luck
