Full Version: Orange Juice in America

In the UK, I would always drink nothing but concentrated orange juice. I drank lots of different brands but the only one I remember is "Robinsons".

It just came in a regular bottle, and you would add tap water to your glass.

In America I can't find anything like that. We got some canned orange as apparently that is the only kind of concentrated orange my fiance knows of. Even that isn't to my liking as it is very thick and kind of like the stuff you'd normally have at breakfast. The kind I drank in the UK was more watery in appearance.

Does anybody know what I'm talking about and anywhere I could get what I'm looking for?

Do you have a store claled Meijer? We recently made a trip there and realized they have a section with different countries products. My husband was thrilled to see they sold some British items and quickly tossed some Bisto into the cart. lol He said they had some Robinsons & Ribena as well. Hope that helped!

There is a web site called "English Tea Store" that sells Robinson's OJ, maybe this is the one you speak of?

Hope this helps smile.gif

Where I live in Rhode Island, I know they have Robinsons in the Shaws supermarket.

Sounds like squash to me - yeah I am going to miss that too- Jeremy was mystified by it when he first came here laughing.gif

You could try looking for cordials as well - I am sure those are more commonplace..?
Reba
depends where in the US you are. The only cordial I've seen here in small town NC is Lime cordial, and I read the label it was made of artificially flavoured and coloured high fructose corn syrup tongue.gif

There are lots and lots of Brit shop websites if none of the stores around you carry what you're looking for. And if you find a shop that is actually in the US, the shipping isn't too costly.

I have seen this in Acme and in Food Basics here in Philadelphia

Yes, it's a concentrate, but it's not juice. More like orange drink. Probably something like this. Haven't seen it over here. Can't even think what a comparable would be. Maybe check the ethnic aisle of some supermarkets.... you may get lucky.... depends where you live.

Actually, yes, I've never heard of that but it might be a close alternative. But maybe with not so much juice. laughing.gif

Have you tried sunny delight?

i know British expats in the US who like something called and marketed as Orange Drink, but I don't know how popular it is outside of my area.

I like Motts-in-a-minute because I can keep in the cupboard and I don't have to wait until it thaws to make juice... but I have a heck of a time finding it.. I found it once at the 99 cent only store but I haven't seen it there since...
Reba
Sunny Delight is disgusting. How do they justify putting vegetable oil in a fruit juice? wacko.gif?
