Hello all,

I was rushing to collect my all documents and especially police clearance certificate, as these are very difficult to get in india.
The police department in india is corupt even after taking money that is their choice if they want to do it or not.

any how, i collected my first police clearance from the local district police but as mention on nvc guidelines i went to my previous city to get another ceritificate, unfortunatly they refuse to give me clearance certificate as i am not living their anymore and i dont have any resident proof.

Now i found on india's reciprocity schedule that police clearance from every city is not required,(Is this true.....?)
http://travel.state.gov/visa/frvi/reciproc...ocity_3582.html
according to this link i just need police clearance from local police and from local passport office.

Can anybody help.

Thanks is advance.

Police certificates: Each visa applicant over the age of 16 must present police certificates. Police certificates must cover the entire period of the applicant's residence in any area. The term "police certificate" means a certification by appropriate police authorities stating what their records show concerning each applicant, including all arrests, the reasons for the arrests, and the disposition of each case of which there is a record. Police certificates from certain countries are considered unobtainable. For more information on police certificate requirements see the chart below:

IF the applicant…AND…THEN the applicant needs a police certificate from…
is residing in India and his or her Indian passport was issued within past 6 months is 16 years old or older 1. Passport office
passport was issued more than 6 months prior to visa application is 16 years old or older 1. Passport office
2. The district police office serving the applicant's place of residence
is an Indian passport holder and is staying outside India is 16 years old or older 1. Applicant's local Embassy or Consulate confirming he/she has no criminal record (a statement from Embassy or Consulate is acceptable)
is an Indian passport holder and currently resident in India, but has lived in another country (except for the U. S.). lived in the foreign country for twelve or more months after reaching the age of 16 years. 1. Passport office
2. District police office serving the applicant's place of residence (if the passport was issued more than 6 months prior to visa application).
3. Country of previous residence, if available. More information can be found at http://www.travel.state.gov/visa/reciprocity/index.htm
is a non-Indian immigrant visa applicant residing in India is 16 years old or older District police station serving the area of residence

Thanks Indianheart for your info ! I noted your timeline at NVC. It took around 3 months even with James Shortcut, but majority of the time was for DS-230 phase. When you had filed, there was no online payment system. That delayed around couple of weeks.

Good luck with your upcoming interview and consulate transfer !!! star_smile.gif star_smile.gif star_smile.gif

HI Guys,

Police clearance becoming big issue now,

As i mentioned on first post that i've got my police clearance from district police and now i am trying to get the PCC from passport office but i've changed my address in last one year( not the city nor the area only house in same phase),now the question is the PCC i will get from the passport office, will be having previous address(only house number changed).
Now i have two options:

1.TO send this PCC to NVC

2.I need to change the address on passport first then get the PCC.

option 2 will take my 2 months and option 1 will take 1month.

If anybody had this kind of RFE please suggest

Hi, Thanks for the information.

In your case you need PCC from passport office and Police certificate from local consulate.

For more information read the below given paragraph or goto this link

Police Records
Indian Police Clearance Certificates should be obtained as follows:

All Indian IV applicants aged 16 and above, residing in India, should obtain police certificates from the local Passport Office. These are usually more dependable than those obtained at a local level and indicate that the subject had no serious criminal convictions on record at the time of passport issuance. Applicants whose Indian passport was issued within the past six months may present just the Passport Office Police Certificate, and need not obtain additional police clearances.
Applicants over age 16, whose passports were issued more than six months previous to visa application, must also obtain a police clearance from the District Police Office serving the applicant's place of residence.
Indian passport holders applying for visas outside India should obtain a statement from their local embassy or consulate confirming they have no criminal record.
Non-Indian IV applicants residing in India should obtain police certificates from the District Police Station serving their area of residence.
Indian police certificates are not available for foreign (non-Indian) applicants applying outside India.

I am still a little confused, so if you have lived in mutliple cities in India and your passport has been issued much before 6 months of your visa application, do you in that case only get a clearance from the passport office or do you still go to the local Police as well to get your clearance.

Depending on where you look … you will see both rules on Chennai consulate website you only need PCC if the passport is issues 6mon or less. On NVC website under Madras the rule states that you need police clearance certificate from the District Police office; I am getting both … Pcc form passport office ( usually can get the same day) and PCC from the district Police Office ( 2-3 days in Kerala)

It's just the passport office clearance certificate if the passport is "new" enough (less than 6 months) ... But it's BOTH (passport office and local district p. s.) if your passport is older than 6 months ... That's what I've learned in talking to NVC and poring over the reciprocity page ...
