Is that, by September 2008 they'll be working on cases that were filed that number of months beforehand, or new cases filed in September 2008 will take that long to process? It's not clear. If it's the former, in September my local office will be on January's cases, which hopefully means that my husband's interview will be scheduled in July or August.

I'm not sure what you're so upset about; every single one of those dates is less than the 16-18 months they were projecting not long ago.

I am upset because they are taking so long to hire and train people to rectify a problem that should have been evident to them about a year ago. I guess I'm more upset that I am in the LADO.

I don't get it either. Sounds like they are talking only about people who filed last summer. What about folks who filed in Nov, Dec, etc.?

Must be referring to N-400 applications, hmmm, Emilio first reported to congress 3 million applications last July, then 1.5 million, then, 0.6 million, but the home page now reports 0.46 million, that number keeps on going down. But he claimed all these applications were approved before last years November election. What about the next November election, this is a big one.

But thanks to the American board of immigration attorneys, Emilio is now history. My wife should have voted in the last November election as all of the USCIS requirements were met except for their long delays in processing times. Why do they even mention married to a US citizen time when that time doesn't count. It's not only that, but their processing times as well that adds at least another 18 months to the marriage date.

Where in the heck is Helena, MT? Their precessing times for citizenship is only five months. But I suppose if 2 or 3 of us would move there, that extra load would increase their processing time to over 14 months.

that doesnt explain anything. what annoys me is that they raised the fee then made us wait this long and still waiting,,why raise the fee if its like that? people who paid way less b4 got their interview in 4 months max now we who paid more have to wait almost a year and a half or more or less if u go by their waiting times, infact their local district office times r going backwards everymonth, if u check u can see that

FYI, Helena is the capital of Montana, but although it is supposed be a beautiful city, clearly there are few immigrants moving there.

I guess for once I can be happy I live in Buffalo NY - our processing times is a super fast 6.4 months on average. But then, once the citizenship thing winds down to completion, the slow pokes will still be living in San Diego or LA or Miami and I'll still be living here

We live right on the middle between St. Paul (8.6 months) and Milwaukee (6.8 months) and never sure which one we will get sent to. The third fingerprinting of my wife was scheduled in Milwaukee, we couldn't make that because we were still fighting getting her green card, but finally that is history. We have the option of going there any Wednesday a noon providing it's not a USCIS holiday, better check the calendar first. But they did accept her application with the expired green card and one year extension notice. Thank God, the USCIS is familiar with that extension notice, nobody else is.

I had a couple of problems with the N-400 as I wasn't sure how many times I was married, could be interpreted as previous or total marriages, my immigration attorney helped me with that, was the total number of marriages, two in my case. Found an earlier application where they simply asked for the TOTAL number of marriages. The other was on fund raising organizations, wife takes a big interest in helping so volunteered for the American Red Cross, United Fund, American Heart Association, Smiles, and the Angels fund, he said to list those. Wasn't sure if these were organizations to overthrow our government or just fund raising organizations to help people.

Did anyway answer yes to coming here to terrorized or to overthrow the government? Guess that is one way to find out who the bad guys are, just ask them.

Didn't I read you have to be permanent resident first before becoming a US citizen and didn't that require full FBI checks, tons of proof and documentation to get that first green card? And didn't we all go through this the second time to get that ten year green card? Maybe I forgot all that and buying a five inch thick folder type legal size briefcase loaded with that required information is just part of my imagination. But the N-400 seemed to forget all that and wanted this same old information all over again. Ha, read about the paper reduction act, and the length of time to fill the form, not doing very well. Printed everything double sided and still got a 5/8" stack of documentation and ran into problems trying to interpret questions that could have been asked in more precise manner. Wonder if the guys that wrote that form could pass the interview English test?

I would not take the dates given by USCIS too seriously. My I751 didn't get approved until my N400 got approved so they failed to meet their estimated time by more than 7 months in the I751 appl. I was expecting that the N4OO was going to be the same thing. I mailed my appl on Nov3 and my priority date was Nov 7th. The NOA I received said I should expect interview between 180 days. At that time I believe they were processing applications received at the beginning of 2007. My interview was scheduled 3 months after they received my appl and I will have the oath ceremony next Friday.
Total time from Priority date to Oath Ceremony was 5 months and 25 days. I will go by the estimated time given in your NOA.

Well as far as we are concerned, the USCIS can take their sweet time, we made a trip last Monday to get new passports for my wife and daughter so they are good for the next five years. When we got home late Monday night, their new green cards were in the mail, so no problem in getting our daughter enrolled in college, getting her driver's license renewed, and my wife doesn't have to be concerned about losing her job. It was with great pleasure she walked in Tuesday morning showing them her new ten year green card with a nice congratulations.

For citizenship, that just leaves voting, can't say much about that privilege, in the last several elections my vote never counted. In the primaries, the candidates were already selected even before they came to my state. And with the crazy electoral system with winner take all, my vote didn't count either. The loser still got elected.

Ha, take your time USCIS, but please, within the next five years, hate that drive to Chicago. This green card thing was the real nightmare.

OK, I' one of the few here who thought the new timeline was good news! I'm filing through the LA office - estimated at end of Sept 08, they will be approving (I assume this means interview stage?) early July 07 (14.3 months). Well, my priority date is mid Sep 07, and , since I'll be working OS from approx July-Nov 08, I'll be happy if my interview isn't till the estimated late November.

But, to those who are impatiently waiting for naturalization, my sympathies with you for the lengthy delays.

I'm so glad to see that the fee increase to reduce the waiting times was so effective.........
