Any suggestions on where to take my retired RAF Father In Law when he comes to visit. Obviously we are going to the Museum of Flight. Any other lesser known interests or big hits with the visiting Brit relatives that you would like to share with me?

My family loved Pike Place Market and the Space Needle. You could also go to Mount Rainier or do the naff Duck Tour on Lake Washington! You could always take the one-stop monorail or the 3 mile light rail Only joking! If your pa in law loves beer go to Pyramid and watch a baseball game. Always a hit with my family anyway! Good luck!

PS Don't do the Boeing Factory tour. It is highly boring!!

You must be joking. The Boeing tour is very interesting to anyone with a background in civil or military aviation.

Especially now as part of it will take in the 787 production line.

I must agree. The Museum of Flight isn't too interesting (or at least hasn't been to anyone I've taken!). Aside from Pike Place and the Needle (which is overpriced) there's the EMP and the Science Fiction Museum in that area too. Ballard and WAllingford have some great areas, and of course there's the Troll in Fremont.

Then there's Snoqualmie Falls and Mt. Rainier and Port Townsend to the old Army base (Ft. Worden) which is nice as well.

not a brit either, but I loved olympic national park, it was amazing. we just went for a day trip but I would have loved to have stayed a while.

Freemont was a little kooky but we got a kick out of the outdoor Movie theatre - though that was 5 years ago, so I don't know if it's still going.

For my money the Oregon/WA coast is some of the most beautiful scenery I had seen in all of the 16 states I visited.

I know is very very far out of your way, but Yellowstone was my favourite place on my whole trip around the country, so if you have the time, you should go.

You could pop down to see Howard Hughes' 'Spruce Goose' in McMinnville, OR - part of the Evergreen Aviation and Space Museum. It's about 200 miles from Seattle.

Thanks for all the input guys. It's been a while since I had visitors outside Washington. When my ma in law came it was easy as she loves animals so we took her to the zoo and she was a bit more in shape than her husband so we could go more places.

Too bad it's $400 but I could have let him take a half hour ride in Bomber plane at the Museum of Flight while he was here.

May just have to extend our trip out to Lake Chelan a few more days...
