My wife is planning to file for citizen ship next spring. Is it a lenghty process? I sure hope by the end of 2009 or early 2010 she will have her US Citizenship.

Will she be able to process a parent petition while she is waiting for her US Citizenship? Or does she have to wait for the official date of her oath taking? wait for the naturalization papers to arrive before she can file her petition?

Another question we have is that she has a younger brother that is now 13 years old. Will it be better for her to petition her brother along with her parents? Or wait until one of the parents is a US citizen and have them(parents) petition the child.. Assuming things file in line with our estimated timetable, the younger brother will be only 18 or 19 when her parent(s) become a US citizen..

Please reply if you have knowledge of this.. No guesses please.

Thanks

She can not file for her parents until she has taken her oath ceromany and become a citizen... she will get her Naturalization certificate at the oath taking so she can file that day if she has everything ready to go....

Hope this helps

The US citizenship process depends on your local office. Here in Denver it takes between 7-9 months, other places can take years. So check timelines of people who have to go through your local office.

As Kezzie mentioned, your wife cannot petition her parents until she has her naturalization certificate in hand, which will be given to her during the Oath ceremony.

If she petitions her brother, it can take more than 10 years to get him an interview, and I think Manila takes even longer. The shortest way would be for her parents to become US citizens and petition him.
