My husband has the yellow envelope given to him by the Embassy.

He knows he is not supposed to open it and that it is for the Customs officer to collect at the airport.

However, our original marriage certificate is inside. How are we supposed to get this back?

Thanks

Ask the customs officer at the POE, they will open the packet there. If you have a photo copy of it, then offer to swap at the POE. OR bring the packet back to the embassy or consulate and ask.

Upon his entry at his POE, the immigration officer opens the envelope. He can try asking for it. There's no guaranty that he can have it back but he can always try his luck. I know some people who did it.
