We have our K-! visa and we are together here in the US. We went today to get our marriage license but they will not accept her family registry(kosekitohon) as a divorce decree. This is the same document we used for her Visa. She tells me that Japan does not have a separate document for divorces. Has anyone run into this problem. How did you resolve it?
Craig,
We got the document called "Jyuri Shomeisho" from the City Hall or Town office where the divorce was registered. We then translated it to english and included it in our original I-129f.
I think "Jyuri Shomeisho" actually means "Cetified Acceptance". On this document it lists the all the information regarding the divorce. Wife's name and residence, Husband's name and residence or nationality. Plus everything that is necessary in a Divorce certificate in Japan without calling it a Divorce certificate.
Hopefully her Parents live near the Office. They can probably pick up a copy from the City Hall (Town office). We went there and got it within one hour. Last year it cost about 300 to 400 yen.
We filed in our I-129f in early december '07 and we are getting anxious because CSC all of a sudden has slowed down to a crawl.
