I called DOS this morning to get the status of our AP, they lady I talked with was very nice. She said that the interviewer was questioning the validity of our relationship (of course she hadn't looked at our documentation or anything) and that they will be doing further investigation, like interviewing his parents. Has anyone ever had this happen? Will they just go to his house at a random time looking for them or will they schedule an appointment? We don't have a problem with them interviewing his parents it just seems a little odd to me.

Check for more info on the MENA forum. I've heard of it happening over there more than once. And, no they do not schedule an appointment. They just show up and ask questions. And they may ask questions of others they come in contact with in their effort to find out more information.

Tess,

LovinLiberia's SO was interviewed / investigated at home. Actually, if I remember correctly, the embassy dropped by the SO residence to do some investigation unannounced. She could probably tell you more about it and how the interview went. Eventually, the visa was granted. Good luck.

We had a field investigation during our process. My husband didn't have a physical address listed on his paperwork so they called us on the same day to make us aware of the field investigation. They also wanted directions to his house. The investigator showed up like an hour later and interviewed some children and random family members. He also interviewed my husband at his job. From my understanding, he asked basic questions like:

When did she come?
How long did she stay?
Is she Liberian or does she have family in Liberia?
What house did she stay in during her trip?
How often do you see them on the phone together?
How did you meet your fiance?

There were many more, but they were all along the same line. He interviewed each person for less than 5 mins. Basically, he was just confirming our story through other people. I don't know what he might ask your in-laws, but it should be okay as long as they answer truthfully about your relationship.

I would not worry so much about this. It may not be that common for Ghanaian or Nigerian embassies but its common for other embassies like the ones in Germany and Holland. This might just be an emerging trend.

Thanks for your responses and encouragement. Dang what a stressful process this is!
