yes hon, EAS = Work Authorization.
You need a SSN though I believe

Yes the idea is that you get the Employment Authorization Document before the Greencard so that you can work while you wait for your greencard, you do not need the EAD once you have been approved for AOS and have received the greencard....
You can file for a SSN once you have arrived in the US... some people wait about 2 weeks to allow the information from your K1 entry to be input into the SAVE system... just make sure you apply for your SSN no later than 2 weeks before your I-94 expires....

Yah about 2 weeks after arriving in USA go get the SSN, then file for AOS. We got the EAD right before our AOS interview but better safe than sorry! Because sometimes AOS approval is delayed and it's good to get permission to work!

yes, we waited about two weeks after entry (actually got married in that time frame), and the had a soc sec number issued (with a notation that it was not good work emplyment without EAD), about 3 months after applying for AOS and EAD and AP, we received both the EAD and AP, still waiting for AOS green card.
so, about 4 months after entering, my wife has permission to work while green card app is being processed.
EAD is good for one year.
