No marriage is easy. The distance could in some aspects be seen as a test of the fundamental strength of the relationship.
Personally, the enforced distance for us just makes us dig our heels in more .... we are utilising all forms of communication .... email, phone, texting, letters and webcam .... though the webcam comes out tops.
We are quite lucky in that aspect as I found a company in England (Talk Talk) which includes my phoneline rental, all calls to the US (24/7 including cellphones) ..... and broadband internet for $40 a month.
We carry on a perfectly normal marriage in a lot of ways, just with 2 homes on either side of the Atlantic and without the ability to actually touch each other when we want to .... which hurts like crazy, but it will not be forever.
I appreciate not everyone has that luxury, and I do understand as we've also had to endure deployment too (which leaves you with sporadic communication), which I feel put us in good stead for any distance that is suffered in our relationship. But then, with a military relationship, separation is part of the package.
With that behind us in the past, we learnt to communicate at a more deeper level .... so much more than those who are together from day one and have no experience of separation.
A relationship which lasts the duration, must be built upon trust and communication. We are all learning those aspects the hard way ..... but if you look at it as a benefit, you won't go wrong.
Our relationship is very close, we are each others best friend, and almost like One in a lot of things. We even know when the other is going to call.
Of course nothing substitutes the ability to hold your Husband/Wife ..... but we all started this process, in order to be able to spend the rest of our lives with the one we love, without worrying about being separated by deportation in the future.
