Guys: Please advice me what to do. Should I go to India to be with my fiancee? Her interview is on May 12. So, I have still enough time to decide.

If I go, then she will feel more confident. I can help if there is any problem. I will feel good as well making sure that everything went well. At the least, I will not regret latter.

On the other hand, I am not sure if my presence really help. Is it worth spending the time and energy? I have to explain my company, and they may not be happy if I take leave.

I hope this question applies to lot of people and would like your advice and thoughts.

Your presence is not really required. She would be just fine. However, if you want to provide moral support, then that is different.

I think you should go, it helps alot. I went for 2 days but I know it was worth it.. .
ELW
I think in most cases it is not needed to go. But you cannot put too much value on the moral support aspect of it. If you have the means to go and your company allows it, I would advise to go. One thing: it cannot hurt, and it may or may not help. If anything goes wrong you will be kicking yourself for not going. yes.gif

One more question: Do you know if Mumbai consulate allow US citizen to enter the consulate? I am trying to find out whether the security deny me entry in the consulate.

From DanielParul, it seems they allowed Daniel to enter consulate. Is the rule same in Mumbai consulate?
Z and S
As far as I know, the general policy is that they do not allow anyone to accompany the person being interviewed into the embassy. Having said that, it is US consulate and hence they cannot deny entry to US citizens. They might try to stop you at the entrance, but if you show them your US passport and insist that they have to let you in then you should be able to gain entry. I know that many US Citizens were able to enter with their spouse, but I guess there are no guarantees. Good luck with the interview, and post your experience here, if possible, for the rest of us.

I have also heard of situations where the USC fiance(e) was not allowed into the interview, but the non-USC interviewee took the USC's US passport into the interview and showed it to the CO and let the CO know that the USC fiance(e) was there at the Consulate in case there were any questions or problems.

Best of luck! I told my (then) fiance to remain calm, smile a bit, and let his love show. He did fine and your fiancee will, too.

If you can go, I highly recomment doing that.

Take your US Passport with you and you will be allowed inside.

Hi Bengalilover!

I agree with everyone else - go if you can. It seems to help on a number of levels: spouse is more at ease, shows your seriousness of intention in a different way, and I hate to say it, but with the USC present, I think the demeanor, etc. of consulate officials is different.

The security outside the Chennai Consulate tried to tell me too that only the applicant is allowed and I just pulled out the passport and said: "I am a USC, and I am going in" No questions after that! wink.gif

Good luck, can't wait to see your success story posted! smile.gif

Guys, I am leaving US this Saturday for Mumbai. My fiancee's interview is on May 12th, Monday. Wish me good luck!

Please offer me any advice or suggestion you may have - is there anything I need to do before I go.

I am taking:

pay-stub since VFS submission
bank statement covering 1-yr.
phone logs since VFS submission

I would gratefully listen any interview advice/caution.

Thanks again to everybody in VJ forum. I keep wondering why I got a lawyer!
ELW
