My initial EAD is running out, and my AOS has not been approved yet, due to Hurricane Katrina etc. Can it be extended?

Unfortunately you cannot extend an EAD. You have to apply for an EAD renewal (which also means pay another EAD fee).

Worth noting is that if you are RENEWING an EAD then you can continue to work aslong as you have an NOA for the renewal. I believe the limit you can work for based on this is 240 days
