I know this is off topic and nothing to do with the K1 but i'll ask anyway. A friend of mine in the UK has known someone in Canada for some years. They have met a few times. Does anyone know what the Canadian process if for marriage? My mate is thinking of moving there. Im not sure if its the same scenario as the K1

Canadian Immigration does not have a 'fiance' class. You either apply as sponsoring a spouse or you can apply as with a conjugal partner class which requires that the couple live together for a least 1 year. You can find the Canadian immigration site here.

conjugal class does not required you to live together for one year, common-law class does. Conjugal class is rather more difficult because it is for couples who have not yet had opportunity to live together, and proving the relationship is harder to do.

Check out http://roadtocanada.com/ for a message forum similar to VJ but for Canadian immigration.

Conjugal partner is pretty well impossible under the usual circumstances for a heterosexual couple where each are from a first world country... There usually has to be some sort of external barrier that would prevent you from living together... A denial in the other country (criminal record, etc.) would be a good way to be eligible.

www.immigration.ca is another good site...
