Tony&Tram
Hi all,
Sorry for the double post but I thought some of you involved with Vietnam might have a few ideas on the subject.

I was hoping one of you might be able to help. When my wife and I got married we never thought about when or how to change her name. When would be the best time now? I’m sure changing her name right after we married would have been the smartest time to do it, but we were so occupied with jumping through the hoops that the Vietnamese government had setup for us, that it never crossed our minds. Anyways, would it be better for her to change her name now while she is in Vietnam? Will that cause problems since we have already sent in our I129f and I130 forms (also we just received her ITIN)? Should we do it after she has arrived? Will this interfere with the whole change of status process; will she have to do this via correspondence with the Vietnamese government, since she would not yet be a US citizen? Should we wait for after everything is done and the dust has settled? I guess we are being old fashioned to be worrying about this but we both really want her to have my name. Any help or advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks again
Tony

Tony,

Thuy and I decided to wait until she got here. It just seems like the logical thing to do considering how complicated this process is already.

I find it very interesting that most Asian wives want to change their names when marrying Westerners, since that is just not an Asian custom. Why do suppose that is? In our case, it does have a practical element to it: Most Americans just simply cannot pronounce the name Nguyễn.

An changed her name when we Got Married here in The Usa.
