I have been married before and need to get my divorce decrees authenticated apparently before we get married in Ecuador.
What I understand is that this has to be done by an ECUADORIAN embassy in the U.S., OR it can be done by an 'apostille' also in the U.S.
Does anyone have experience with this? I don't live near an Ecuadorian Embassy in the U.S. so that this would involve a trip. I THINK that an apostille can be done in my state, but am not sure WHO does this.....
If anyone has information it would be greatly appreciated! thanks.
That's right, it works the same way here in Guatemala. Documents that are issued in a different country than the one where the document will be used ( called documents from abroad) will only be considered authentic if they are legalized by the Consulate of the Country where you'll be using the document.
I suggest you read this info.
Legalization of documents. Embassy of Ecuador in Washington. D.C.I also suggest you contact an lawyer in Ecuador, so he/she can tell you about any other special requirements that the Civil Law in Ecuador establishes when marrying a foreign person.
