As for the whole money order thing...if I was stateside I would transfer the funds down there and have someone go to the bank in JA and get the money order in JA funds. Seems to be the only way feasible.

Is there something different with an international money order versus a regular money order? Like if I got an IMO here in the states could I pay for it that day in US funds but have the money order made into JA funds? Not sure...

There are agencies that you can get MO in international funds - We do it here at work through the bank -

I'm not sure either. But, I know the post office sells international money orders in JA funds.

The problem with doing what you said, is there is all kinds of paperwork that has to go in with it. Mailing it down to them, sending money for the MO, waiting for them to go get it, and hoping they send it all in together. That is a whole lot of responsibility I wouldn't trust to anyone I could get to do it in JA.

Oh I was just thinking of them getting the MO and sending it back to me. I wouldn't trust all my information back and forth in the mail like that no0pb.gif

Hi everyone. Well we sent I-751 off. Received last Wednesday and check cashed Friday. I am hoping we get the letter soon that says travel allowed because we are planning to go for 3 weeks in December. Is that usually in the Noa1? Sounds like it, but just verifying. I would think we should get a letter anytime now.
Yaads
Congrats JGD on sending out the package biggrin.gif

Yep that "extension" letter is the NOA1. If by some chance you don't get it (I think that happened to SJB?) you just have to make an infopass and get the stamp in the passport before traveling. Hopefully you won't have to wait long.

Good luck with filing!

The only hassle we had with the letter was when we were returning here from Sangster - some new guy worked at the Delta counter and he was talking about hubby's greencard was expired headbonk.gif and I said to him "that's why we received this letter from USCIS" - then he takes the letter and says "I need to make a copy of this" blink.gif his supervisor came down and snatched the letter from him and told him a few things (lol) and he gave it back to us and told us what gate to board at. In hindsight, if I would have kept our Infopass appointment and gotten the stamp we could have avoided that fiasco and saved some time at the airport.

I agree. Damien traveled with the extension letter and but only had to show his stamped passport. No issues whatsoever. The CO said it would have longer if he showed the expired GC and the letter.

Glad I'm not going to have to deal with that part of it. I sent off hubby's passport last week for renewal. I'm sure they will take just as long to renew it. We aren't going anywhere for a while.
Yaads
I am hoping not to have to deal with the passport thing at all until after USCIS. A's expires in 2010. If you get good info on passport renewal please share JG just in case.

So if you hold 2 passports...a JA and US one. How does that work? When you fly into JA you show your JA passport and then when you leave and come back to US you show that one? He would be treated as a JA citizen when in JA but a US citizen everywhere else? There isn't very good info on the whole dual citizen thing.

If and when it goes through, I will post all our experiences. I don't want to post any wrong info. till I know if I did it right.

I don't think I would show the JA passport except in immigration to make things easier. Otherwise, I'd use the US.

Hey Yards,

In the past, I use my JA passport when I reach Jamaica and the US passport when I'm returning. I have a resident stamp in my US passport now, so I don't bother with the Jamaica passport. My US passport will expire in a few years and I hope it won't be a pain in the next to get another resident stamp from Jamaica.

Hi all,

Its been so long and I am sooooo glad to see all my old friends from here!

We filed for lifting conditions in January, didnt hear anything til April, then got an RFE, just during the time my mom was in the hospital with a stroke.

Then my mom passed away, a week later Lakes dad passed away, so didnt get a chance to answer the RFE til almost the due date of the end of June. Finally got it all together, sent in MORE stuff, got approved and he got the permanent green card in July AFTER he got back from his dad's funeral. ALMOST didnt get to come home, guess they held him for couple hours with just the extension letter, sure didnt have time to get a stamp in passport.

So it all worked out, but WHEW!

Now...we are due to file for naturalization/citizenship in December. Am hoping to do that.

Oh and Together, if you are out there still reading, how is your application for the step child coming. We applied for Lakes son just last month, got the NOA but so far thats it.

Thanks all,

Yea it was an awful time. I had started to post timeline here as we started it, then everything just rather blew up and I have no idea of what day what happened except mom's death. We also had a car accident the day of her viewing at the hospital and gave Lake and myself whiplash and back probs, and almost missed the whole thing. Yea and they waited THREE months to send the stupid RFE...

All I know was it was a bit TOO much getting a darned RFE at that time and I just put it off up til the deadline of another three months, I just couldnt deal. I know exactly what it was tho, I hadnt sent in last years taxes, since it was January and I didnt have them done yet. So on top of all that, had to get the taxes done before I sent it in. Yea, it was a totally horrid year.

I think Rhonda and myself are about the same time line, real close. Been awhile since I seen Elizabeth, Rhonda, Mindy, and all our old friends. smile.gif I found this thread and was totally thrilled!

As for Lake and I, we get along great, no probs, except the man still never talks much. OH, and he JUST passed that goshdarned GED I used to complain about for the last three years. I must say, he kept at it and tried and tried and studied. It was so heartbreaking, as he had to have a total of 450 between all the test scores and he was raising it from like 420 ...TWO points at a time. His graduation ceremony is December 18th and I am SO PROUD of him.

So tell your men to keep after it!

My condolences to you both, good luck with Naturalization, and *woohoo* for Lake passing the GED kicking.gif

How is your health?
thndrdancr
Hey

Didnt really mean to be a stranger, started posting last year when we were going thru that lifting conditions. We all need each other for all these crazy paperwork stresses, dont we? lol

Anyhow, then everything fell apart and I dropped out of here to do full time hospice care when mom was released.
Well we were getting this place fixed up, Yardie, and boy was it a hassle. Then, we got to looking at acreages in the country, I would love to have some critters running around, and we found a foreclosure.

So we went thru bidding on that for the last four months, we FINALLY got it, I mean they accepted our offer, and now our bank is holding us up, so thats a stress, darnit! We WERE due to close the 20th. Anyhow it will be so fun, and SO much work to do.

me and hubby wanted to rent this one out, but everyone is telling me we should sell, and sis wants to sell as well. So up in the air about it. We wouldnt live that far, 22 miles out of town, but we are not handy at fixing stuff up if it gets trashed, and we JUST put so much work into the darned thing! Isnt that the way it goes?

My health is much better, Jonesie, thanks for asking, and blood sugar seems to be in much better control too. Still tired all the time, doc did a full blood work up, I was thinking thyroid was off but it came back ok. But I feel pretty good as long as I dont overexert myself. I am hoping to have peacocks and some other birds at this new acreage so hopefully that will keep me fired up. In town here I have now have SIX pet chickens and they do keep me going, as I HAVE to get up to take care of them. devil.gif

I used to love the Celestial Seasonings Antioxidant tea, and it would really give me a nice jolt of energy, but they changed the darned ingredients and its not effective at all now. Anyone have any other teas that are healthy and seem to fire them up? Tried Red Bull (not so sure thats so good for you tho, lol) and even IT didnt do a thing.

Well you all take care, we can file for Lake in Mid December. Sheesh, not sure I kept track of every trip out of the country, sheesh. crying.gif And each job...ugh

Glad to see ya all.

Jill
Jomo's girl
Didn't even really cross my mind, Thunder, since we havent' been out of the country at all and he's had the same job almost 2 years now. I am not thankful for that.

Hi Jill!!!!!!

(((((Jill))))) Yeah its been a while. I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Belated condolences.
But congrats to Lake. I remember how hard he worked on that GED. That talking thing ..... ah it is what it is.
My grandpa used to defend himself by saying "speak when you are spoken to - answer when you are called." It's a phrase usually directed to children - as in be seen and not heard. LOL

It's so good to hear from you and to know you are thriving!! I miss Iowa. Really.
Elizabethnhenry
Congrats Jonesie and Yaads(aka Yardiewife) and others who got their new greencards!

We are still waiting. Henry's mom is in the hospital, but he is afraid to travel without the new greencard.
I can't seem to convince him. Anywho, my good friend went to visit her and he called and gave us a good report (reports from family are "angsty"). He gave us a list of all that she said and did and my mom (a nurse) said those are all very good signs for recovery.

Anyone in touch with Squitto, tell her I said hi and I miss her!
