the CO told him that as long as we get a joint sponser he will get the visa!!! The CO told him my income would have been fine if I had been working for a whole year at both jobs but since its only been 8 months, they can't rely on that. rolleyes.gif Basically then, that whole current income thing is not the only thing they are looking at, it's also the length of time earning the income. Anyways, already got a joint sponser lined up so I'm not worried about it. It just kinda irritated me a bit because I don't like asking someone to do this for us. {it's why I started working 2 jobs, I didn't want to ask} I owe my uncle bigtime now. So, it will put us back a couple of weeks, but what is a couple more weeks when we've been waiting this long right? laughing.gif Anywho...I'm happy and relieved they only wanted a joint sponser !!!

Well congrats anyway. Just get the darned thing to them ASAP so your SO can join you sooner rahter than later. Did they give a date where he can submit the required info?

I dont know yet. I just briefly talked to my hubby on the phone. I'm waiting for him to get back home so I can ask more about what happened at the interview and what questions they asked him. I'll post it here when I find out. He did mention something about he was watching other people come out after their interviews and they were crying so it made him nervous.

Congrats,

Are you saying that if your petitioner earns above the poverty line now and not working at the job for a year they want a co-sponsor. Because my hubby earns way above the poverty line but has not been in this job for a year.....Also what does CO stands for (sorry, i really dont know)

Congrats! The sad part is I worked a job for almost 8 years and just quit. Now if I get a job before I have file the financial support they are going to say I'm not working long enough? sad.gif Thank goodness my mom will co-sponsor if needed. good.gif

I am simply stating what the CO {consulate officer},at the embassy in bucharest, told my husband as the reason they wanted a joint sponsor. I was under the impression that they would go by the current income only from what I had read here on VJ and I was wrong. So, now I know. I'm just thankful they will still accept a joint sponsor. Anghel just has to call the embassy once he has the new I-864 packet with the joint sponsor info and schedule another interview.

They went by the amount showing on my 2007 tax return, not my current income. I think there are several different things factoring into this. YuAndDan and Jomo'sGirl made good points:

QUOTE(YuAndDan @ Apr 16 2008, 01:05 PM) *
Length of employment can and does concern the visa interviewing officer, the affidavit of support is only one thing used to determine if the prospective immigrant wont become a charge of the state, the I.O. can demand additional evidence that the immigrant will not become a charge of the state.
QUOTE(Jomo @ Apr 16 2008, 12:55 PM) *
That would depend........

Did he make above poverty level before this job?
Did he have steady jobs before this with little to no gaps in employment for years back?
Can he prove all that with W-2's and tax returns?
Is this job permanent? And, can he get a letter stating this?

Probably what happened to that other person is the job they had before was not above poverty level or there was not a steady enough employment history. Just because someone makes enough now, without proof that they are able to keep the job and keep up the means, it may not be enough proof. Proof of steady employment is best if you don't want to have to find a co-sponsor.

Fantastic news, Eresh! And thanks for posting that about the joint sponsor info.

Rocketta - I am in a similar situation, I just quit my great job of 5 years to go spend time with my husband abroad. Earlier I posted on this site and got some good information about things to consider. It is questionable whether my freelance income will do the trick at the interview - confirmed by Eresh's experience that they wanted to see more than a year at one place (side note: I think I will be insane if I have to wait another year for our interview!) So I lined up my mother as a joint sponsor and will go to our interview with all that paperwork in hand. I won't use it unless they really require it, but I figure it's best to be prepared with the backup plan.

Hi Eresh and all,

I had the interview on 04/17/08 to USC in Bucharest and we had the same "problem”. We already had at the time of interview a copy of I-864 from a joint sponsor but they ask for the original document .So now we have to wait for the original I-864 and then call for another interview appointment. My question is: Are we going to have another interview or we just have to submit the documents and everything will be ok? The CO told us that everything else is OK but they will grant our IR 1 visa only when we provide the requested documents. The CO told us is no time limits but the sooner the better for us.True.We all want happy ending.

Good luck to you all!
