We finally got our papers from our sponsor.. everything perfect and accounted for.. only as soon as we opened it.. the stale smoke smell rushed out of the envelope! Everyone back at home smokes.. I've been quit since i moved over here..(to the uk) so for 16 months.. so the smell now to me is horrible! Does anyone know how to get rid of this smell?.. obviously without ruining the papers themselves.. as i'm tempted to drown them in fabreeze! Thanks

Well just place it in an open air , and dont put inside the envelope. It will sure the smell fades away itself. Nothing to worry about that. Nor do something about it. it will fade away automatically. biggrin.gif smile.gif

Perhaps putting a fabric softner sheet between each page? Or, put them in a shopping bag with a couple fabric sheets and tie the bag up for a day or two.

Ha! I got a good laugh out of that subject line! I had the same problem with the papers my husband has been sending by FedEx - the woman in the Fed Ex office smokes like 3 packs a day and when I open the envelopes, I get a little reminder of Bulgaria ... you can almost see the cloud of smoke emerging!! The smell does fade with time, if you just let the papers air out... but I figured in my case, the smell proves that the papers really did go to Bulgaria for his signature (in particular our taxes, which cost an extra $60 back and forth just to get his signature). Ha ha

Good luck to you for the rest of this process!

Most of the time, if I get stinky papers, I will scan them creating new and toss the offensive originals. I hate it when people actually feel the need to mail you second hand smoke! wacko.gif

haha.. i've actually fabreezed our bed... let that dry.. and then just spread out all of the papers on top of that hoping the freshness would rub off! we just can't have anything go wrong.. we've been waiting forever for these papers it seems!! now we just need to send off our checklist and wait.. hopefully my hubby will be able to put in his notice at work soon.. *dreams* we are looking so forward to this.. i bet we must be the only 2 people ever looking forward to living in Alabama! haha.. anyways.. thanks everyone for the suggestions!

kazan... these are actually our affidavit of support papers.. soooo.. we need the originals for the signatures etc tongue.gif.. the rest could possibly be photo copied.. but i think they are airing out well anyways.. :-)
