My wife can apply for her SSN as soon as she enters the country right ?
we will be out of state when she gets here so my question really is. Can she apply for SSN even though we are not home ?

SSA is a Federal not a State agency... You can apply in any city that has a SSA local office...

... and give it at least 2 weeks so that your wife's arrival has been recorded at DHS's database (SSA will check on that one for verification) to avoid coming back and forth to SSA.

If ur under k3 ur wife cant apply for SSN unless she has the EAD card , the EAD card u can apply separately it will cost you $340 , but if u will file it along with the AOS cost u nothing . Im in k3 visa also thats what i did , my EAD took 42 days my SSN took 2 wks .

under K3 visa, the person cannot apply for SSN. Has to either file AOS with EAD or file EAD alone then apply for SSN.
