How tired are you of seeing op-eds posted against the candidates? When was the last time you read it and changed your mind?
PlatyPius
I'm completely sick of them. I'm sick of hearing/reading the names Clinton, Obama, and McCain. I'm tired of the smug postings, the inane attacks, and the Jonestown-esque fervor that some people seem to have for certain candidates. I'm for Obama, but I'm not fanatical about it. I just think he's the best candidate.

What is the issue with people discussing their constitutionally protected views of a candidate.

If you don't like it, you don't need to look. Not rocket science.

It depends on who is posting them. There are some members who are unmoveable in their opinions of the candidates, but they are a definite minority here, IMO. I think most people here are aware just who those people are and pretty much dismiss each political op/ed piece they make. There's a lot of great opinions out there in print though that I think are thought provoking and persuasive. It's a matter of separating the chaff from the wheat with regard to which pieces are worth reading, but ultimately it's up to the discretion of everyone here whether they want to read it or not.

I'm more sick of people complaining about the op-eds than the op-eds themselves (many of which are interesting, even if I don't agree)

Yep - the sheer number of threads is just ridiculous. And "spamming" was right on the mark.

A quick perusal of two members post histories (and we all know which ones) shows 6 pages of election threads apiece!

If that ain't spamming, what is?

Yeah. I'd be more worried about the voices in your head that tell you to give the cat a bath and read every political post in OT.

A more correct statement would be that anything we discuss here is at the pleasure of Admin. You aren't 'constitutionally protected' on a private message board.

If you don't like that, you don't need to post here. Not rocket science.

I love OP Eds.......My mind is in a constant state of flux as oftentimes forum users sway me to their POV, really, no, no really....laughing.gif

edit: I see they didn't listen to you and moved this thread. Oh well, those mods never listen, do they?

If you say so - it certainly doesn't seem that way. I really didn't realize it was such a problem for people that it needed to be addressed in several threds. Perhaps we should merge them or create a seperate subforum for "threads that talk about other threads"

Personally, I could live without all the ones that link to news from yahoo's front page (we have at least a couple a day). I mean I see those anyway when I log into my mail. But hey - I guess I'll live.

That's just what I think. I am equally annoyed by Obama spamming and Hillary spamming. Hillary is not my candidate but I feel very protective of her as a female candidate. I see sexist remarks about her everywhere and they upset me quite a bit.

However, I'm afraid I've only encouraged these threads because 22% or whatever are actually persuaded.
A.J.
46% are often or rarely persuaded... only 54% said never.

i'm surprised.
Alex+R
I know. Me too. Although "never" is a big word. I probably have been persuaded once or twice (although not in this election), and I voted "never."

Never
Agree
and Agree because there was no option for "I don't care."

I can't really imagine that someone who has intelligently made a decision on a candidate or who reads the news and watches debates, would have their opinion swayed by a posting on a forum, but maybe that's just me. (wow....really long sentence). I'm for Obama and it's because of my research about him, not the opinions of others. But I don't believe in swearing fealty, which honestly is how some fanatics seem to act.....

In that case - vote for McCain. He'll be on an iron lung in a few years anyway wink.gif
kaydee457
Alex+R.

Here's a novel idea, given that you're the resident "writer" in these forums....Why not start topics of your liking, **YOURSELF**, replete with the level of detail and "substance" that you are apparently complaining is lacking in *other peoples threads*?

Are your fingers broken? devil.gif

If you want to discuss hauty taughty political issues, those that you think important, then by all means create some of your own threads to do so!

Frankly, I don't see the purpose of threads/polls like this as you're complaining about posts that you yourself say you don't like, and seeking consensus amongst others of like mind, but as we all know, you don't have to participate in those topics that don't interest you.

Simply pass them by?

Seriously, they move topics. If someone posts a K1 question in the AOS forum, they move it to the proper forum. That's what they do. There are many of them.
