Hi

I am in Uk going to get married in Jamaica in May. While i was looking up visa info i came across this forum and I would like to say I wish the one in UK was as supportive as this one you all have each other's backs.

They don't want to let the Jamaicans into the UK - the refusal rate is very very high - how is it form JA to USA.

one love.

Congratulations Jay on the upcoming nuptials. It's crazy that the UK, which has such a strong history with JA has a high refusal rate. Though we really have no statistics, in the 10 months that I have been on VJ, I have only heard of a few "denials" in the process and even these denials will have a second chance to try again in a few years. Most of our Yardies have been approved on the first try; there have only been a few delays because the embassy needed more evidence; usually after the evidence has been provided, they are approved. It's just a stressful and trying process, but we have had immeasurable success for our VJ yardies.
All the best with your marriage and getting your honey to join you in the UK.

The rules I read for the UK didn't sound that much more difficult then what we deal with in the US. Pretty much par for the course.

I did read they recently raised the cost of the UK visa.

Just hang in there. And, search around. There must be someone out there to help you, specific to your situation.

Good luck to you.

I have family in London & Birmingham and they keep telling me the same dyam ting! That the UK gov't is HARD AS HELL on immigrants coming from JA. My parents immigrated from JA to the UK in the 50's and I was born there. Then we moved to NY...but I really feel it for J'cans now! It's a few REALLY BAD APPLES that have ruined it for the bunch!! sad.gif

You are in my prayers for a speedy approval and please feel free to join us on the Yardie thread...ANYTIME!!!

Bless-ed,
Gill

Welcome!!

I would agree with you on the USA vs UK thing.

They have to have a BONAFIDE reason here to deny you, ie, traces of marijuana found in your blood or you admitted to it.....In the UK, they can just say they don't think it's a real marriage and you are out of luck....The only thing that seems a sure way is if you've been married and lived together a while before coming to the UK....I was on a forum over there http://www.ukresident.com/forums/ and I was horrified at some of the stories!!!
Best of luck with your journey is all I can say!!

The RULES sound the same, but for instance, if you've only known the person three months or so, they can flat out DENY you just on that basis alone!!
Or because they don't like the age difference, etc etc
