I do not think so! I know you cannot from Russia! Usually phones from different countries run on different frequencies! So you will have to buy a new one in the USA!

Yes you can... but I think it will all depend on where you are heading. My relative is in California and she can use her Smart number there.

Before you leave the country (at least an hour while still at the airport), enroll your sim card into roaming. A lot of people have done that...

Depends on the phone type if it will work with US phone services. Avoid keeping your phone company back in PI, you will be hit with some crazy phone charges if you do.

I couldn't even have my phone from Canada on a US phone system. None of them supported the phone.

She's moving here, why would she want to pay Globe or Smart huge fees?

If your mobile is already unlocked, no problem. If it is locked, get it unlocked before you leave. In Manila you can get a mobile unlocked for a couple undre Peso's.

When you get here, will will have to use a carrier that uses SIM cards, example, AT&T, T-Mobile, etc......

Sure you can but make sure it's dual or triband so it could work in the US fine good.gif .and if you'll be using a sim from here, just like what Mae have said,u have to enable its roaming feature.

have a great day smile.gif

terrible answers everywhere.

Phillipines uses gsm networks like most of the rest of the world.

like all other countries EXCEPT the usa, phillipines uses the 900/1800mhz frequency. So.... if you only have a dual band (900/1800) phone, NO it will not work in the usa.

The USA uses 1900mhz for its gsm, being tmobile and att. sprint, verizon use CDMA which is totally incompatible with most phones bought anywhere else in the world.

The ACCURATE answer to your question is....

if you have a "tri band phone" i.e. 800/1800/1900 it will work fine in the USA. as long as it is unlocked, meaning that you can use a sim chip from any carrier. If yours is triband but locked, have it unlocked for a few dollars at any corner GSM phone shop. Once you get to the usa you can pop in a sim chip for tmobile or att and be good to go. If your phone does not happen to be triband, you need a new phone. A few dollars on ebay should be able to sort that out.

Send your phone model number and i can give you a definitive answer about your exact equipment if you dont know the specifications.

its the N95. can that be used here and if so what US carrier will it work on if she gets it unlocked before she comes here? of course i use verizon but if we have to change carriers, i guess that's just one more thing to add to the list. lol

thank you so much for the replies..

here's the specs.. http://www.nokia.com.ph/A4530184

N95 will work with no problem here..............
gtron
do you know with what carriers? att, t-mobile, or all of them.

thanks again.

Nokia N95 is a very versitale phone..

It will work on Tmobile and att/cingular, as long as it is unlocked. all she has to do is pop in the new chip when she arrives and you are in business.

If it is locked which i doubt, there are MANY unlock services on the internet that can do it for like 10 dollars. If you have problems let me know and ill point you in the right direction.

as you are on verizon and likely have a contract, if you like your service, get her a new phone for cheap (like 20 dollars) and be glad with that.

However, since she is used to gsm, and considering all of her friends and families use GSM and since GSM is better,,, i would consider switching to Tmobile or ATT//Cingular..

if there is a dealy time.. as soon as she gets here,, get her a temporary pre pay tmobile or att chip and use that until you can make a more informed decision.

i take my phone to calli locked and on home sim, its tri band so it works. though i havent unlocked a phone for usa yet i did for france for three months and when it is unlocked it should accept any sim you put into it. i got my own network to unlock it, i phoned my phone company to unblock mine, it was basically over the phone, and they gave me a code to type in.

whats wrong???

Your phone will work just fine and great as long as it is on Tmobile or ATT/Cingular!!

some other problem we can help with??
funkyab
ahh haa...

well.... sometimes change is good. Verizon is useless.. especially for those of us that frequent many different countries regularly or have family members and friends or collegues outside of the usa.

verizon is great for people that strictly use their service in the usa and have all of their life based in the usa... Boring.

for you guys,, it is just something that will have to be adapted to. ANYWAY. tmobile and att/cingular plans are better anyway.

i see.. thanks for the replies..

Since all the phones in the Philippines are unlock..you should be able to use it here in the US. No matter what service you go to..Just want to remind you people here don't use their cellphones for texting..we use cellphones here to make phonecalls.
gtron
great, thanks everyone for your replies! im starting to do more and more international business so i need to get off verizon anyway and if she wants to have n95 all the more reason to switch.

im using a razr Motorola before (hubby bought it from ebay. and gave it to me while i was still in phil)... was using globe back then, i got a roaming so i can still text my mom and family in phil when i flew here in the US but globe messed me up so my roaming stop and just sent it to phil... since we're in a family plan we got a bunch of at&t razr which is lock but i call customer service to have it unlock... so when we visited phil last time i brought 2 razr and put a globe sim on it and gave the other one to my mom lol... depends on what type of phone but some nokia, samsung and motorola will work here in the US...

If its open line you can use your Nokia N95. Just buy a prepaid sim like T-mobile or At&t. I used my Nokia N93 in New York for 6 months and a lot think its a cool phone. Your N95 is expensive in the US, last time I checked it was like $800. I think now its $600, much expensive than Iphone. I love Nokia N95.

Because I thought she wanted to keep her sim for her family and friends to save a lot of money in texting here once she's here in US. Smartypants! whistling.gif
