I too must abstain from this... But Ira's family and I have always gotten huge laughs out of the various "sounds" we apply to animals.

Good luck with your lessons!

I'm also going to refrain from the "see and say" drill. Although, I really would like to pull the wind up cord and see mox spin around and then land on an animal and make both the English and the Russian sound. Now that would be prikolna!

Well so far my pull-string toy only has 3 animals. And since all the eligibles are party-poopers:

Pig: хрю! хрю!
Frog: ква! ква!
Duck: крак! крак!

Anyone know any more?

Is it me...or is this the dumbest thread we've had in awhile? smile.gif Maybe someone could translate "Old McDonald had a farm" in Russian.

We all must be getting VERY bored and restless waiting for interviews.

I believe the dumbest thread started would have to be the numerous "why do you love Russian women?" and their synonymical (new word, go me!) ilk.

You'll thank me when you know why your wife is pointing at you and saying "хрю! хрю!" biggrin.gif

Your comment is redundant..."preconceived" same same pre-judge.

I was in SF when you were just a twinkle in your daddy's eye. The wacko factor was lower then. Good food, charming wharf, nice trolleys. I do remember nice bus drivers. And there was a quaint little Russian restaurant come to think of it.

Today I see The Peoples' Republic of SF as a fringe metropolis run by adolescent people pretending to be chic and hip. Reminds me of a Barnum and Bailey Circus sideshow in the form of a city. The city has no shame and honors no social decorum. And like a good socialist government, it's out of money.

A large group of people who are controlled and fed controlled and/or misleading information can be wrong. E.g., Nazi Germany, China, North Korea. 7 million people who are independent minded and simply want to live their lives in the way they choose are not mislead or wrong. And contrary to popular belief, San Francisco isn't all free love and anal sex in the streets. San Francisco encompasses a range of people and cultures and political views. It's definitely a more "liberal" city than, for example, Kansas City, but it's also a lot more diverse than Kansas City. Some of the most conservative people I know have been to San Francisco and loved it. Every city has its share of silliness, and SF is no different. But (once again) sweeping judgments do not reflect reality.

Since we're getting quasi-political here, I'll drop this one in for thought....

Today, the city of Cincinnati announced that construction should be halted on a new multi-million dollar riverfront development (hotels, upscale housing, shopping, nightlife, etc.) that's been hotly debated for the last, oh, five years or so, because now that they've got it going and it's finally happening, nobody included provisions for low-income housing to be included in the deal.

The city's metro housing authority (CMHA) said no one realized the potential for federal funds to be included in the project if low-income units were added and now the project should be halted until they figure out if it is indeed possible to include low-income units.

WTF???

(Meanwhile, the city of Newport, Kentucky, right across the river, built a shopping and night life center about five years ago when Cincinnati started arguing about it and since then, they've been on the receiving end of about 66% of Cincinnati's entertainment dollar. Where's the other 33% you ask? Not in Cincinnati. Indiana decided to build riverboat casinos a long time ago and our money's steadily been going that way ever since. 66+33 is only 99, so I guess Cincinnati does get to retain some of it's own money. Oh, now I get it! Maybe that's why we need low-income housing! Sorry. Forget I posted this.)

Edited: I did forget about our "professional" sports teams, the Reds and Bengals. Maybe we get to keep 2%. I don't know. Most of that was covered by a Stadium Tax and all that jazz already so really we're just paying more money to keep our "professional" teams here. They sure do generate a lot of revenue. Especially when all those Pittsburgh fans come to town for the football games and Wrigleyville South turns our stadium blue. Gotta love hometown pride!
