Just wanted to start a thread to help anyone who may be thinking of DCF in india.

So far We (my wif and I) are very close to being completed we just need to send some final docs.

Well from what of read on this site and my experice here's my insite.
Will not get to deep just little pointers to help.

I recomend looking and earlier post's of VJ members CarolynRitsh & VISH vish has a good note on resdency status

Resdency status is Key BUT BECAUSE THERE IS A USCIS OFFICE in Delhi not just the EMBASSY wich does the final processing DCF is a little more (possible) then other counterys

Be sure to keep all documentation no matter how insigniffcant you may think it is I.e JEWLERY recipets HOTEL BILL FOR THE WEDDING ASK THE HOTEL FOR A PRINT OUT bills for The carters A copy of the MENU. Bill for the DJ, VIDEO. PHOTO if differnt. PLANE TICKET Wedding cards EVERY THING!!! PHOTOS PHOTOS PHOTOS are good BILLS better Communcation RECORDS A MUST Letters phone bills text messges e-mail's

Also READ up on forms you will Need that take time I.e POLICE Reports PASSPORT reports MEDICAL Get these ASAP even before you file if you can they are good for 6months and take awhile to get.

I am really glad you started this topic, you read my mind! I think all of us at one point or another have had some kind of panic causing issues in this process - it is India after all, and things have their own way of working out here, not always in logical, timely manners! (Gotta love India for that alone!)

It is 3:00 am, so I won't write too much - need to get up and start packing all over again tomorrow... The best tip AmanRam already gave, RESEARCH in advance and GET ALL THE DOCUMENTS WELL in advance if possible - for us it was PCC, for AmanRam, receipts for every last thing of the wedding, for others it might be vaccination records to avoid large medical bills...

The other thing is that each area/city of India has its own rules about things like police certs., and its own timelines, procedures, and baksheesh structure. (Just being honest or 'keeping it real')

Another point or two, and these are purely hypothetical, just my gut feelings, so take it with a grain of salt...

1) Hindu marriage act weddings seem to require a TON of proof - perhaps it is the cultural expectation that it should be a HUGE event with elaborate costs and hundreds/thousands of guests. SAVE THOSE PROOFS!! As a couple under the 'Special Marriage Act', we were not questioned about our marriage in the same way, we were NEVER asked for receipts, and had to show the bare minimum for photos, etc.

2) If you file DCF, I feel (again, feelings, no real proof to back this up!) that having the USC there at the interview helps. Maybe since it is a DCF filing, it is a little expectation in the COs mind - even more so than if a K1, K3 or CR/IR1 is filed from the US. (I think it is ALWAYS a good idea to have the USC there, but more so for DCF) VISH, that does NOT mean that your wife won't do great!!

At some point, Ritesh and I will sit down together and review the entire process and post again with lots of details, particularly for this situation:

Man originally from Delhi (til the age of 24), living in Bangalore in two different apartments/parts of town, married to an older American (non-Indian origin) woman. (I just know that we are not alone, and that a similar couple will come through these boards some day!)

This is an excellent post........... I think my first post has quite a bit useful information regarding DCF, though it's a long post, go thru it if you're planning DCF...
