Yes, very similar to 3D animation but I happen to be a 2D animator. After Effects is my main software program, which people always say is Photoshop in motion, if you are familiar with Adobe software.
Come to think of it melusine, didn't you mention that's your field, or that you are interested in it? What do you do?
It's always hard to describe what I do to people who aren't familiar with the industry, but I work on commericals, show openings, music videos, that sort of thing. It is a pretty cool job but I think my dream job is to be a chocolate taster. Or a sommelier, though I don't think I have a particularly well defined palette.

i am a jr 3d animator, i also like compositing (use eyeon fusion) wich might be closer to what you are doing... after 7 years in graphic design (print and web). I went to school last year to get my new field (i always wanted to do 3d work but it was too early when i wanted it... no school yet in france (it started like 3 yrs later)...
I took a long way to finally do what i want to do but i'm there now

of course, photoshop, illustrator, indesign, quark etc are also soft that i use

But now it's more, XSI, pftrack, realflow, fusion. I am working on a project right now where i use a little particules, rigid body and scripting because i didn't used it much in the past year too.

and right now i am self learning maya, combustion and some scripting to add some extra's too

Yeah, I like compositing as well, though I'm not familiar with all the programs you mentioned. I've learned combustion actually a couple of times in the past but never used it on a regular basis and so forgot it. I also tried to learn Maya on my own but have learned that I just don't think I have a brain for 3D. I'll stick to 2.5D, haha.
You're the female half of the relationship, right? It's rare that I see women 3D animators. So good for you. We need more women in the field! And you're going to be moving to LA, right? There's so much work there! Which, actually for me isn't great since I have no desire to live in LA. But there's also plenty of work here in NYC, so good thing.

haha, just caught up with this thread again. So yes, I did call again today. I was feeling shy to call too often, but hearing that some people call every 2-3 days will probably turn me into one of them.

I have to admit, I don't like having a name above me on the spreadsheet with a date, and not having a date myself. I understand they had some sort of slow-down, so I should continue to be patient, but I can't help my irrational feelings!

I definitely still have hope for the end of May. But I won't be surprised if it's early June either. I just really really hope it's not beyond that! I'm hoping we'll be living together again in June!

You're hardly being irrational. I used to call frequently, late at night, at their home numbers. 5 times a day is not enough. Seriously once a day is not too much. I used to phone at least twice a week.

At least just let us know the dates. What was it you were saying about a slow down? Is that from the spreadsheet or did someone at DOS say that to you?

Sorry, it wasn't MTL having a slow down, it was the couple jingai, that I read that MTL messed up getting them their paperwork, so it just took them a long time to get their date, or something along those lines. Which is good news, as it seems MTL is scheduling away. Just not for me or you.
Seriously, though, I feel exactly the same as you. I'd actually be okay with a late June date if I knew what that date was going to be!

I'm with you guys! Just give me a friken date already!!! NVC said they are done scheduling Montreal for May (not much help for you K-1s, I know) but we're still pretty much all in the same boat

Well, I just called. Still no interview.
I didn't have to hold at all though, so now seems to be a good time to call if anyone feels like it.

I called too and, nope no interview. I really didn't think there would be but you never know. I asked if she knew approximately what date they were working on and she said "ma'am, it doesn't work that way" I think I irritated her because she got pretty snarky with me just for asking that.
I said I just wanted to know because I have 2 kids graduating and can't plan anything without knowing. She's like, You're not required to go to the interview. I said I know but I want to be there with him. She's like well that's your decision (really snotty). Yea, I know it's my decision and I don't care if you think I'm foolish for wanting to be supportive of my fiance. Geez, give me a break!

It was an unwanted reminder of how it is calling USCIS CSC, ugh!!

Oh that sucks! I've actually only had nice people to talk to at DOS, not snotty ones. And I almost asked the same thing today too (don't know why I didn't but maybe it's good I didn't).
I also didn't really think they'd have a date for me, but, one of these days they will! And I'll be surprised and relieved, probably a lot like with the NOA2.

Melusine was march but said her p3 was received April 8th which is only 2 days before mine. I have no idea about everybody else but figured everybody's details are so individual that it was worth a shot calling. Yeah it's only free if you're in the States and have free long distance (which most cell phones do, and mine does).

I was thinking I wouldn't bother calling either until I saw you 3 (melusine, laura & rae) got your interviews cuz you're all on the 8th and i'm the 10th. But I just couldn't help myself today. It's good to know that they said the 8th could be any day now. I wonder if that means the 10th too cuz it can't take that long to schedule that many people. I can hope I spose . maybe it will be next week for sure...i'm sure hoping so. At least when I see your dates it'll give me a darn good clue into my date too.

To my knowledge, the answer to this is no. I could be wrong though. I suppose to find out definitively all one needs to do is call them and see if there is an auto thing to go through and use.
