Hi,

I was just wondering, I need to get a police certificate for the interview and the lady at my local police office (we dont have a RCMP, they amalgamated with another local police dept. ) said that I need to find out which one to get otherwise I waste a lot of time and money. She gave me two choices, one with fingerprints, and one without... I emailed the Vancouver Consulate but they haven't replied yet.

Which one is needed for the interview?

Thanks for the help,

Emily

Hi Emily

You need a police CHARACTER certificate which simply indicates your current residence and your non criminal record. I am not sure about the fingerprints or non fingerprints options. Just show the embassy letter to the police dept. in which it stated that you required a police certificate and they would understand it which one you want.

Thanks for the response, I think the character one is the one without fingerprinting... and probably the one I need... but I just want to make sure.

I phoned the police office, and they weren't sure which one I needed. Which is why I posted. I even read the document to the lady and she had no idea. Anybody from Canada that can tell me which one they used? Thanks.

NO criminal record = NO fingerprinting

As well the police background check must be a Canada Wide check and I believe if ya have changed ur names, has to be searched int hose names as well

And when it come to the actual look of the certificate, they all differ!! Some look like a 3 yr old drew them up,lol Some charge no $$, some do, some hand them out asap, some take a week or so.

Yeah, mine was just a form I filled out in my own writing and the RCMP officer just initialled that the check returned no positive results. It doesn't look very official at all. He also signed the bottom and put the phone number of the detachment so the consulate could call him if they had any concerns. It cost me 20$

LOOK HERE! FOR EVERYONE GATHERING THEIR DOCUMENTS FOR THE K1 INTERVIEW LISTEN UP!

If any of you have this following Police Clearance Certificate, it is sufficient! I read it had to be nation-wide, then I read it had some special symbols and images on it, etc.

For those who have a clean record like me, this is sufficient. Don't freak out like I did!

Thank you all for the replies!

I was so worried I'd have to get fingerprinted and wait a long time.

Man, mine doesn't look NEARLY as nice as that one. That one looks super official! The only thing official looking about the one I've got is the seal that she put on it! I suppose every province is different huh?

I had mine completed by the RCMP in Greenwood NS and it looked like a 3 yr old made it up!! Did not look official at all!! Had this big macho RCMP guy tel me it may take up to 14 days!! Then I was assisted by the secretary, she said to come back in 2 days, lol

mine looked a lot less official then that too but it was good enough for Montreal...

What did people in Ontario use?

Can I go to the police station nearby? It's a regional police department not the RCMP.

Any police station should be able to do it. My Husband went to the Calgary Police for his certificate.

If one is i nthe Greater Toronto area, I believe the Commsionaires is the way to go: http://www.commissionaires.ca/
otherwise ur local police detachment or rcmp. Just give them a call! Trailmix strongly recommends u just call 911, but not I!!!
