My fiance is filling out I-134 now. He makes over poverty line. Ok, now poverty line is based on annual income right? He got a job a year ago as a new graduate and he makes 31k now. But, he has to pay so much tax and he also has very very good health insurace. He is single and no child. He lives with his mother but she is a fulltime worker and does not even depend on him. I wonder how much money you need in order to avoid public chare will apply for every person. Not like oh Japanese embassy requires more than other embassy or things like that. US embassy in Japan does not state exactly how much we need. Please let me know.

His income must pass the poverty guidelines by 125%. So it might be close. Check the VJ guides on how to fill out this form and also check the USCIS website as their are instructions as to what is required. Also you will find the list of poverty guidelines. Right now I believe it is 25K per year gross income. I would suggest starting here on VJ at the following website VJ Affidavit of support guidelines

The poverty line depends on how many dependants you have. According to Wikipedia (all standard Wikipedia disclaimers here, but I've read elsewhere and this sounds about right to me), for two people the poverty level is $14,000. So 125% would be 17500...your fiance should be just fine. smile.gif (they cite their source for that info as: Federal Register, Vol. 73, No. 15, January 23, 2008, pp. 3971–3972., just in case anyone wants to look it up...I'm just trusting Wikipedia).

The poverty level is also looking at how much he makes before taxes.

I agree with BigCityDave.......no worries. He exceeds it.
