Does anyone know this question??

Once you've had your interview at the consulate and have been issued your visa, when you get to the border to activate your visa, can you temporarily work until you adjust your status after the wedding??

Thanks in advance.

You can get a "work authorization" stamp on your I-94 at your port of entry (border crossing) but very few of them will do this, and it is very inconsistent. JFK airport is known to issue them upon request. Most of the other POE's will sometimes do it if you happen to get an officer who doesn't know better, is having a good day, or whatever else causes them to issue them sporadically.

You will still have to wait a couple weeks to get your SSN.

Basically, I wouldn't count on working before you receive your EAD after you apply for AOS after the wedding.

If you go through New York City JFK airport as the foreign fiance(e)'s point of entry into the U.S. you can get the 90 day temporary work permit. But you will need to file for the adjustment to get the regular Employment Authorization Declaration. This is one reason why Jum is flying into NYC, in addition to a non-stop flight available from Bangkok and a good reason to make a vacation out of it!

Good luck,
C.J.

Also, be aware that if you get your EAD at JFK, it expires as soon as you are married and you have to apply for a new one.

Jasman, I notice that a lot of the messages that you post in the various forums here have nothing in them except for a quoted message and a nodding head. Are you having trouble posting your message?

Detroit bridge or tunnel (I forget which) also issues the temporary EAD *sometimes*. The only way you would be able to get the stamp at JFK would be to fly from Halifax to JFK as all other airports in Canada clear US Customs on the Canadian side.
