Unfortunately a Canadian team hasn't won the Stanley Cup in 15 years, so it's not just the Leafs' fans these days. The way the HABS were playing, I thought it was a redux of those Leafs-Devils series. The HABS couldn't move the Flyers off the puck. crying.gif

They were the last hope darn it, I am so sad. Well I guess I will have to stick with Pitts and hope Sydney breaks some records.

Congrats good.gif , now it's time to forget all the stuff you just learned by killing your brain cells with beer. laughing.gif

The way the Flyers beat the HABS, they will probably maul the Pens in 6, even if the Pens have Roberts and Laroque. Wings and Dallas is too close to call but the Wings are in playoff mode so Wings in 6 as well.

My silly husband, who is a crazy Leafs fan, has bought a Flyers hat! He was very anti-Canadiens because, apparently, the Habs are all Russians and the Flyers are call Canadian, so it works out for him.

I've never been a hockey fan, but I love Andrew so bad I've actually been paying attention. wink.gif (I'm more of a Phillies & Eagles fan.)

Go Flyers!

Go Flyers!

I had no idea that there were any Eagles' fans left. laughing.gif If McNabb doesn't pull it together this year, the Eagles are planning on activating Ron Jaworski and Randall Cunningham. laughing.gif
A Leafs' fan who cheers on the Flyers, now I've seen everything. Maybe the Leafs will do a bit better next year and DH can come back from the dark side. laughing.gif I have a friend who said the same thing about the Canadiens being all Russian, why oh why couldn't Price play more like Tretiak. headbonk.gif

Pittsburg up 2 games and philly is running out of defensemen, lol
flames9
Not looking good for the Pens late in the third!! down by one! Of course they should have been up by 4 or 5 early in the game, lol. Wings are looking strong. was hoping for a Pens win, but there are many players on the Wings i'm glad to see win the cup (again)
Leafgal
Didn't see it of course but was on the phone with my son in Calgary and he said ####, I said what he said Pitts just scored with 35 seconds left so they have life left yet.
Eric_and_Corinna
Malkin has disappeared in the last two rounds and isn't showing much tonight...Pitt is looking like they're just hanging on sad.gif
Leafgal
Heading into double OT
flames9
I stayed up and watched the 2 OT, but fel asleep after that, lol. Suprised the pens won, the Wings just seem to have more bounce. One would think the Pens would have the increased energy/stamina as they are the younger team, but thats not the case! Sure making things interesting.
Leafgal
I was only updating it online after I got off the phone since it wasn't on tv here.
thetreble
What a game! I fell asleep after the first OT. I still don't know who I want to win. The Pens have such young, GREAT talent (if Malkin ever decides to show up) but the Wings have such great maturity and experience (plus, I want to see Osgood win a cup where he actually plays)

Looking forward to game 6.
Leafgal
Game starts at 8, I think I want Pittsburg to win tonight.
Leafgal
OH well it is all over for this season. And hey the good news is GO LEAFS GO...... hee hee hee
flames9
Power was out, so didnt get to watch any of it!!! i was so hoping pens would win, forcing a game 7!! oh well, detroit was the better team!!

Favorite of the year for Leafs fans, they are in first place, till 2nd game of the new season!!
Carlawarla
Yes the Redwings win again. That last "almost" goal by the Penquins was incredible. Next year....GO LEAFS! yes.gif

man, you missed a great game. i threw up a litte in my mouth that last second when osgood bobbled the puck and it almost went in!

couldn't be happier for the boys - i about lost it when McCarty lifted the Stanley. He's had a rough couple of years and it's great to see him back in form.

now i've not got anything on the telly to watch until the olympics start.

Leafgal
The beginning the season isn't the Leafs problem usually. I didn't see it either, but was hoping it would force a game 7 as well.
Eric_and_Corinna
BOOOO WINGS! Oh well, they were the better team. As an Avalanche fan, I can't bring myself to cheer for the Wings no matter who they play.

We still have the AHL for a couple more days... maybe the Baby Pens can win it, but they're down 3 games to none sad.gif

Only 100 days til training camp!!
thetreble
Glad Osgood won it. Part of me didn't want detriot to win because they are always so successful. When tampa bay won the cup, THAT was exciting for me. When the Canes won the cup, that was exciting. The Wings have won the cup like 4 times in the past what...10 , 11 years? haha
derekkj
If this doesn't make DC a hockey town, nothing will!

Washington's Ovechkin, Boudreau give Capitals big night of NHL honors
The Associated PressPublished: June 13, 2008

TORONTO: Russian forward Alex Ovechkin won the Hart Trophy and The Lester B. Pearson Award on Thursday night as the National Hockey League's player of the year, honoring him for a season in which he scored 65 goals and 112 points.

Ovechkin edged finalists Jarome Iginla of the Calgary Flames and Evgeni Malkin of the Pittsburgh Penguins for both honors. The Hart is voted on by members of the North American Professional Hockey Writers' Association, while the Pearson is given out by the NHL Players' Association.

"I think I'm the happiest 22-year-old guy on the planet," Ovechkin said. "Everything I've got I make myself. I'm working hard and I know it's improving."

Ovechkin was the first player to score 60 goals in an NHL season since Mario Lemieux in 1996. He joined Sergei Fedorov (1994) as the only Russian-born players to win the Hart and the Pearson.

The Capitals' Bruce Boudreau, hired during the season after Washington's woeful start, earned the Jack Adams Award as the NHL's top coach. The only damper on the evening in the nation's capital came when Nicklas Backstrom was edged by Chicago's Patrick Kane for rookie of the year.

Boudreau, who led the Capitals to the Southeast Division title, beat out Mike Babcock of the Detroit Red Wings and Guy Carbonneau of the Montreal Canadiens.

Washington's run of awards was stopped when the 18-year-old Kane won the Calder Trophy over Backstrom.

Kane led rookies with 72 points, including 21 goals. He is the first Blackhawks player to win the trophy since goalie Ed Belfour in the 1990-91 season. Kane, who had the best first month by a rookie since 1992 when he posted 16 points in October, topped Chicago linemate Jonthan Toews and Capitals center Nicklas Backstrom for the award.

Red Wings captain Nicklas Lidstrom completed his second hat trick in Norris Trophy competition when he was named as the league's top defenseman for the third straight season and sixth overall. That moved him into third place behind Bobby Orr (8) and Doug Harvey (7) and snapped a tie with another Hall of Famer Ray Bourque.

"He's the best player on our team," Red Wings general manager Ken Holland said.

Another familiar winner was New Jersey's Martin Brodeur, chosen as the NHL's top goalie for the fourth time in five seasons. Despite not capturing the award for the first time until 2003, his 10th full season, his four Vezina Trophies are second only to the six won by recently retired Dominik Hasek since general managers started voting in 1982.

In other awards, Jason Blake of the Toronto Maple Leafs, diagnosed with leukemia just before the start of the regular season, received the Bill Masterton Trophy as the NHL player who best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to ice hockey.

He lost 4 1/2 kilos (10 pounds) after starting to receive treatment, but didn't miss a game.

Pavel Datsyuk of the Red Wings took the Selke Trophy as the NHL's best defensive forward. Along with teammate Henrik Zetterberg, also a finalist, Datsyuk helped shut down Crosby and the top line of the Penguins during the finals.

I guess we will see in the new season. I want to come up there to see a game when they play the Leafs next year, so time will tell. Also am hoping to get down to see the Hurricanes when they play the Leafs too.

The Verizon Center is actually a pretty good facility and at least the nosebleed seats have historically been cheap ($15 or so). I have a feeling that next season might be a different story but as you say, we shall see. But at least for the last few years, the Canadian Embassy has gotten inexpensive tickets for any game the Caps play against Canadian teams so if you want to see the Leafs, sign up to get notified: http://www.connect2canada.com/

Excellent thanks I will sign up for sure. I collect hockey jerseys, home and away and I also want to visit all the arena's, not as likely to happen (although have been in both of Toronto ones and the Saddledome in Calgary) lol.
