Hi, I don't thinks so.. I have 3 guitars my self and wanted to bring my Ibanez acoustic with me.. But I had enough baggage as it was.. I didn't even look into it.. but I am fairly sure you can't bring it as a carry on.

Customs might look into it though..I suggest not to bring it..might coz you some unnecessary headache in the customs area..just have somebody send it to you once your in the US.

i got a guitar back in phil too but my hubby bought me a guitar for xmas even before i got here in the US (he bought it in dec, and got here jan. so i thought no need to bring mine)... but my guitar back home isnt as good as what i have now anyways so i didnt worry that much lol...
anyways as for your question, im not sure that its ok in the international flight but you can surely call the airline because here we're allowed to bring a guitar (hand-carry) in the plane and i guess hand it to the flight attendant and they'll take care of it... though its always best to call the airline first to see if they allow it coz they might wont but the people that ive known who done it (domestic flight here in the US) has no problem bringing their guitar as a hand-carry... good luck!!!
there's a bunch of guitar here with good quality and brand names with cheaper prices too (esp. at the pawnshop lol). but if its got sentimental value then "nakakapang hinayang talaga"... if it is your first time to travel here in the US, its better not carry much stuff and worry all the things you've got... but probably you can bring it when you visit back to phil again! good luck and happy trip! God bless!!!

I brought a guitar to and from the philippines and it was fine. I was expecting customs in the Philippines to give me a hard time but they didnt. I used PAL and I called and told them about my "carry on." They placed my guitar standing in the closet where they put suits if you know what Im talking about.

But I did notice that Philippines customs and airport people in general dont give US citizens a hard time. Not as much as they do to filipinos. This might be something to consider.

I saw several people carrying a guitar as carry-on luggage. You are allowed 2 checked bags of 32 kilos each and 1 carry on of 7 kilos plus one other item like a purse or laptop.

yea i dont think there's a problem if you put it in hard case and check it in knowing its protected. if the custom will check it, then its just easy to open the case and have them check... although it would be a hassle to bring it as a hand carry coz there might be more people bringing it or other stuff to be place in the certain area... so its always best to call them so they would know in advance how much stuff to be accepted or to be declined at. its like a first come first serve type of thing lol.. (my opinion base on somebody's experienced)

I thought that apart from the weight that there were also size restrictions. Why not just ship it to the US while you are there so it will be waiting for you when you arrive?

We purchased a guitar for my husband's colleague and he was able to bring it to the US as carry-on without any hassles.
