Hi everyone. I am a Canadian citizen who lived in Australia for a year - unfortunately, right after I turned 16. According to the packet 3 instructions, I need to obtain a police check from Australia since I lived there for more than six months. I visited this site: http://www.afp.gov.au/services/operational...ice_checks.html Does anyone have any idea whether or not fingerprints are required for K-1 visa purposes? If so, how would I be able to give fingerprints to them all the way from here?

Thanks in advance!
Krikit
You only get fingerprints done if you have a conviction.

I had to get an Australian Police Clearance done as well - I also lived in Australia for a year. After reading through some of the Australian posts on this website, I determined that yes, you do need to get the fingerprints done for Australian police clearance. I got my fingerprints taken at my local police station, then sent off the forms to the Australian National Police in Canberra. It took about 6 weeks to get the letter back.

If you want to double check, maybe you could post your question in the Aussie forum. Good luck!

I am an Australian living in Canada and I had the same question. To be sure, I emailed Montreal to confirm about the fingerprints and the answer is no - you do not need them. The requirements are the same as for the Canadian police check (unless you have a criminal record, of course).

Thanks Ali. I will apply without fingerprints. If anyone else has any input I will still check this thread!

Unless you have done time or been arrested no dont worry about it.............. But you might as well pay the extra $100 or so for the fingerprinting since a simple police record check in Australia cant be relied on ( we aussies are all convicts in some way smile.gif and our Govt loves over charging people for anything and of course lets not forget the taxes we pay to our beloved QUEEN for EVERYTHING we purchase!

My Husband is an Australian - he only had the name check. I did email Montreal and confirm that it was ok. They accepted the name check only at the interview in Montreal, no problem.
