Luis is having a problem with his birth certificate. They spelled his last name wrong & since his mom didn't know how to read, when he was born it stayed like that. He's mad cause everytime he calls them they say to call on Monday. LOL
Ay Dios mio!!!!!!! hahaha
I told him that it sounds like civil service here in NY too. I told him what the DMV is like and he says its worse than our DMV in that office. I doubt that. I told him the DMV was like hell and that he would see when he goes there.
I hate sitting there for an hour watching everybody's # show up on the screen except mine.

I decided to have some time away from VJ today as well. Just a good ole mental health day really. Time to regroup!
Does seem as though the approvals come the beginning of the week. Also seems to be that they have a surge of approvals before annoucing the new estimated dates that they publish on their website. Interesting... whatever the case .. we're all about due!

Raffaella, doesn't hurt to call but I agree with Sally (hi Sally!

) and everyone else... this is just the way it goes. Been watching them do this for a year now... no rhyme or reason to it...some people just wait longer. Not so long ago the wait was 6+ months so i'm trying to be thankful we're not back there. It's extremely rare that a K1 is not approved at the uscis level so I wouldn't worry about that.
Pink (pim)... i've been watching your timeline since we were both touched around the same time. I think you might be right and I do hope it's this week we are soooooooooooo ready to be done with this! 10 months is far too long to be away from the person you love.
Nice to see you Brian! Any news on interview yet?
Graham and Meagan... where are youuuuu???? I know you're together but say HI!

I've seen you lurking!
I've been trying to keep myself extra busy so I don't make myself crazy. We're so hoping for an approval in the next week and then to rush the NZ Consulate along to get Russ home asap. It gives me peace to know that NZ is such an easy Consulate to deal with (knock on wood).

Firstly, congratulations on your choice of user name: I had that blaring out at ear-busting decibels on I-44 a couple of weeks ago on the way to Branson. You may or may not know that large swathes of I-44 (i.e. most of the Eastbound stretch between Springfield and St Louis) used to be historic Route 66, and it don't get no better than Gillan, Blackmore & co behind the wheel of a car on arguably the most famous stretch of road there's ever been.
Anyway, I digress.
We filed in february and are still waiting - so I hear ya about people getting approved before you do. Annoying, but nowt you can do I'm afraid.

.
Damian, thank you for mentioning my screen name! I am a HUGE Deep Purple fan, and in general I am very much into all Seventies' rock music. This is how Michael and I met... I am just a passive music lover, while he's a very good bassist, and can play some other instruments as well. Hopefully I'll be able to go to a lot of gigs when I move to the US!

Amber and I also met through rock 'n' roll - an AC/DC music forum, to be precise! I like a lot of '70's rock too (except Led Zeppelin - sorry, I just don't get them) especially Deep Purple. When I knew we were going to Branson for the weekend I deliberately went into WalMart just to buy the greatest hits CD for the journey!!!!! When "Highway Star" came on, I depressed the accelerator, turned the volume up to 10, and just enjoyed being alive!
You will LOVE the U.S. if you're a rock music lover - nobody does rock 'n' roll bars/gigs etc like our American friends. And unlike the U.K., there's a classic rock station on the dial wherever you may be. If you're ever in the St Louis area, I highly recommend KSHE95, or US97 if in the Springfield/Branson area.
Long live rock 'n' roll!

I hear ya about singing anywhere and everywhere; I do that all the time - when I'm loaded! You ever use Limewire or something similar? If you have, you'll know how incredibly addictive it is, and how before you know what's going on, it's 7am, and you've drunk a case-and-a-half of beer, and 2 packs of cigarrettes!!
Anyway, point being, I was well into a Limewire session (about 3am I'd say) and Skynyrd's "What's your Name" was playing at the time. I had my earphones on at the time (you can guess what's coming now, right!!??) and you just know that whilst you THINK you sound just like the singer on the song, in reality you sound like a sack of fighting tom cats on moonshine! Anyway, suffice to say that 'er indoors emerged from her slumber with a face like thunder, and shot me the kind of look that would kill a man stone dead - I piped down after that!
Ah, beer and rock music - truly a winning combination.
KimandRuss
Jul 18 2008, 10:25 AM

that is too funny.
I actually do sing in public and used to even get paid for it so I hope i'm not too bad!

Although, after watching some of those fools on American Idol thinking they can sing I did ask my love....

I'm sure I have a cut of my voice somewhere i'll see if I can find. We used to go to concerts all the time (having a cousin in the biz is helpful) but it's not so much my thing anymore. I much prefer a lounge in my pool or a good hard run with good music in my ear now.
Umm I actually have over 1/2 a terabyte of hard drive space almost completely full up of movies and music from every genre and generation. My love is HUGE music fan ...and a downloading fool. I host my own server as well so if we ever run of out space....

Awfully convenient, no?
I do enjoy an ice cold coors light and perhaps a shot or two of tequila here and there ... although I don't seem to need it

.... but I gave up the cancer sticks in the early 90's.

Argh its taking so long!
You know what annoys me? How naive we were when we first started this whole thing- we had NO idea, and thought, 'shouldnt we wait until you back to the states to submit the paperwork?' and did just that, and once we started understanding how long this would take and the whole process we realized we could have submitted it all LAST year when he spent 8 months with me, and spent these months you have to wait TOGETHER and not have had to be apart so long! :'( oh well, perhaps we are learning lessons while apart that will help us to be together for the long haul eh? And Im making British pounds so thats going to be great for the states

Trying to stay positive here lol....

Thank you Rachel. It makes me feel good that in educating myself so much, I can help others through this.
Yeah, suzy.. mtv has had it's time.

Glad you had a good time last night. ooooo open bar!
Oooo Gaura, I hear you!! If only my ex woulda signed those darn papers 3 years ago...or even just a few months earlier... we were living together for a year and a half and early on we planned on just marrying as soon as my divorce was final. Then he was denied entry...then I started reading.

Last year the petitions were taking 6+ months from NOA1 to NOA2 because of the backlog and then in January they were being approved in less than a month. What a roller-coaster it's been!
I have a few regrets, which i'm not so good with, but I keep my focus on moving ahead and not looking back. The process has surely made us stronger and I have a feeling that once that approval comes ...the rest of it will just pale incomparison.

Michael and I had a similar problem with his divorce. Being a resident of North Carolina when he was married, he had to be separated for one year before filing - which he did from his new residence in Northern Virginia, Fairfax County. Well, it seemed they were backlogged too, so it took almost 5 months for the divorce to be final. Then we filed, lost those nearly two months, and here we are, waiting again... At this point, I really hope to make it to the US before Xmas. The positive side of all this is that I'm working and earning money, and also earning vacation days, which I'm going to use before I move to do all I will have to do.

Good morning April friends.
It's really good to see VSC still moving... allbeit a creep along... it's moving!
I'm always so interested to hear the stories about how people met and the steps they've taken to get here. People don't take that into consideration so much when viewing your timeline. It certainly wasn't easy for us but we have done things because of 'the rules' that we wouldn't have done otherwise. I got to live in another country with my children, we've travelled all over the world, we depleted our savings.

The wait apart is so excruciating ....but it's been a heck of a ride! I feel we have a much better base for our relationship than many couples have. Sure some of that just comes with wisdom and time but there's a whole lot to be said about the experiences you've had as well. This wait is hell but I know just how lucky we really are.
Have a lovely weekend April... may Monday bring us a whirlwind of happy news!!!

That is so very true, Kim! I know that, before I met Michael on that forum, I thought I'd never ever travel outside Europe. Though I have always loved travelling, I had sort of lost any taste for it, unless it was a country I knew well. Then, all of a sudden, I found myself booking a flight to Washington, DC, braving the 12-hour journey in order to meet a man I had never seen before... And that was the best thing I ever did in my whole life! Last year I spent two months (July and August) in the US with him, and in spite of the practical difficulties we had, it was a time of my life I will never forget. Living together was wonderful, even in a limited amount of space, and I can't but look forward to sharing our everyday life in our home in Alexandria, VA. And to think I used to be a very independent person, quite happy to live on her own

I had a good long sleep in this morning after a long day in the hot 95 degree sun yesterday. We did a collection downtown for the 3-day in memory of a friend who died last year of breast cancer. She was just 39 and left her husband and 2 small boys.

Keeps things a bit more in perspective, no?
