Okay, I can't seem to find at thread listing out the order I do things and the pros/cons of that order. I looked at the K1 flowchart, but I know I've seen threads where people have said you can go in different order to make it easier. So, can anyone give some tips? My fiance is arriving at the end of this month. I know we need to do the following:
-Get SSN
-Get License
-Get Married
-Update SSN with married name
-Update License with married name

What order do these things happen in? I've read we need to wait two weeks to do the SSN, but does that mean we should get married after that or before? Note: we are getting married at the courthouse and will hold a ceremony in the fall.

And will we have to wait for the SSN to arrive before she gets her license? She might go crazy if she can't drive for an entire month.

Any help would be appreciated!

She can drive with her Canadian DL until she gets her new one. Each state seems to have different regulations so check your states DMV to see what their requirements are. Personally we married a few days after I arrived and I applied for SSN in married name with a copy of our marriage license. And as far as my DL I used my Canadian one until I had all the paperwork the DMV here in Virginia required. So both of my items were in my married name and I didn't have to change them over, just needed proof of marriage for both.

That's actually what I was hoping we'd be able to do. What did you do about car insurance though? Did you continue to pay on your Canadian policy or were you able to get on your spouse's one without an SSN?
