I have finally received the packet 3 along with the case number… I am bit confused now…as the document clearly stats to mail back teh cover letter along with the form DS.230 Part 1 to the address mentioned in the packet…..
My question… When should I be sending the 864 forms?????
What should I send right now????

CarolynRitesh
Hey Sahana!

Congrats on getting your case number! Which consulate are you with? (There are slight differences between them I think.) For us, packet 3 materials that need to be returned were simply the completed DS 230 - part I (signed), and part II (unsigned) and the DS 2001 "Applicant Readiness Form". Once you return that, your consulate will schedule the interview, often posted on their website by the 10-15th of one month for the following month. (For us, we returned Packet 3 by Blue Dart couriers on the 25th of Feb., and our interview is April 3rd.) Depending upon how fast you return the Packet 3 docs (and your consulate), you could have your interview in May!

Make sure that you have gathered all those other documents required for Packet 4 - things like the I-864 and supporting docs, police certs, birth certificates, etc., etc. or are really close to having them - our PCC took 5 weeks! Once you know your interview date, you take all those docs to the VFS office 15-10 WORKING days in advance of the interview with the passport (NOT just the copies of the passport pages, we discovered that the hard way as they needed to put some kind of bar code on the actual passport at VFS, and would NOT let us submit everything else without it!)

For the Medical, we have to have the actual interview letter to see the doctor, that you will have to wait for until you get the yellow interview letter in your hands.

You are on your way!!! Congrats!!! smile.gif smile.gif

Thank you so much for your promot response.. I just read the letter this weekend, and realise what a mistake I had done.. I was waiting for my brother to fill out the 864 forms as was under the imperssion that 864 needs to be mailed out as a packet 3....

So bascially just submit those two forms now, and 15 days prior to the interview submit all original documents asked in the covering letter (photos, marriage certificate, 864, passport) to VFS...

to answer your question, its Mumbai,.... I have called them several time, but am not able to get through.... I hope Vish can revert, as his was the same..

Thanx for your help

Hey Sahana,

I am not sure how good Mumbai is about responding to emails, but Chennai is fast - sometimes same day responses! Put your case number in the subject line and send it to the Mumbai Immigrant Visa email address with your questions - they may get back to you faster that way. (We learned our actual interview date that way on the 4th of March while the dates were not posted on the website until the 13th, and we got the interview letter around the 18th. smile.gif

All Ready!!!

Currently I am all set to mail the next packet with following:
DS 230 Part I signed
Part II Unsigned
DS 2001 Completed and Signed
Check List (Instructions for Immigrant Visa Applicants Packet 3.5)

Please let me know if I am missing something,

Thanx

Sounds good (according to Chennai standards anyway!). We used Blue Dart to courier it to the consulate - VFS not required at this stage! (Unless you are in Mumbai, then you might be able to take it to the consulate!) Give them a week to 10 days, then email/phone to ask for the interview date! If they don't get back to you, they should post by mid-April for the May interview dates! smile.gif

Make sure you have all those other documents ready - I-864, police certs, birth cert, etc. if you haven't already.

WOO HOO, you are on your way!!!

Police certs I need for my spouse only...
CarolynRitesh
I would say get on those RIGHT AWAY! Ritesh took 2 weeks for his local police cert, and 5 weeks for his PCC. (Granted, there were extenuating circumstances, but it is always good to feel that you are DONE with all the documentation!) We really cut it down to the wire getting those, and almost missed the VFS deadline for getting everything in.

Thank you so much for your information... just wanted to confirm that I have to send for my spouse only and not mine... hope all will work out.. I think the gap between sending oacket 3.5 and the intial interview is about 2months (per vish).... hope less time...
we already have requested for the cert for my spouse only...
CarolynRitesh
If you are a USC, you will not need police certs. This is only for the intending immigrant. smile.gif
Aman Ram
Good luck Sahana smile.gif reviewing this thread you look good to go and from my experice if you put in the effort and stay persistant it really does work out smile.gif

Hi guys,

I'm in same boat as you guys.
Married Dec 4th 2007
Filed I-130 @ Delhi on Feb 19th 2008
Don't know when our lawyer sent out DS forms
We were issued a case number on March 3rd or 4th 2008 (from the case number)
Our letter with our case number was lost in post and emails - calls to Mumbai consulate went unanswered.
April 8th 2008 Wife visited the Mumbai consulate office to inquire and she received the letter on the spot.
Waiting for the appointment letter.

Yuppie..
We have our interview date all set..
Well not officially.. We have yet not received the mail yet, but I called up the embassy and gave them the needed information and got the interview date:
June 12, 2008 is D day for us.. We both will be travelling to Mumbai with following things:
Passport (Mine & His)
Birth Certificate
Marriage Certificate
Police Clearance (His, only from Passport office as the passort issued this month only)
Proof of Marriage (Pictures(engagement, wedding, honeymoon, travel, family gathering), Phone Bills, Bank Statements) anything else I can take?
I-864 (mine)
I-864A (dad)
Our Assets Information (Bank Balance, Property, Insurance, Jewellery)
DS-230 Part I and Parth II (we had already mailed this, but taking a copy with us, just in case)

Medical Report (we have yet not received the appointment letter, hence pending the same)

let me know if I am missing something..

At same time, we had paid about $350 when we filled for the visa, I believe their has to be one more fee which has to be made of $350 - - - - can we make the cash in rupees just like we did before or we have to take the demand draft?

Aman Ram
HEY SAHANA - Good luck --looks good only one thing you wrote Police clearance his only from PASSPORT office as he has only had his passport for one month but I think you only need a passport clearance if you have had it for more then six months and always need a local Police clearance. Please, do some further research.

Hey Sahana!! Congratulations on your interview date!! smile.gif smile.gif smile.gif

My brain is a little fuzzy after a long day of sorting, packing, etc., so I don't want to say that your list is the final of all finals, although it looks good. Just a couple of points:

1) I don't know your situation, but in ours, (with me having lived in India for 3 years), I filed one I-864, and my Dad did a separate I-864 - not an I-864A - but that all depends on your situation. (Even though our address in the US will be with my parents for the first month or so anyway!)

2) You should be sending all those docs via VFS 10-15 days in advance, plus one copy of most of them. (The Consulate keeps a copy and you get the original back) We also made a copy of everything for ourselves, just in case of ANY probs. Only your spouse can get into the VFS office, and will need his passport so that they can put a sticker or something like that on it.

3) I am not sure about Mumbai, but for Chennai, we HAD to do a demand draft for the exact amount. The fee we paid in Delhi was to USCIS for the I-130 - NOT the actual visa. The fee for the IV is another $400. Check the Mumbai Consulate Website for current information on all the docs you need to bring, as well as the current exchange rate for the visa fees.

4) Aman Ram is correct, you definitely need the local police cert.

Good luck you guys, I can't wait to hear of your success story!!!

Thank you both for such promt response...

Somewhere I read that you need only Passport Office Clearance if the passport has been issued less than six months - - just to be on the safe side we are planning to do both police clearnace and passport clearance... no issues...

Fees, I would consult with the agent and see his revert.. no biggie here as well...

I-864A - - true have to fill 864..

Hi friends,
I am Faiz from Hyderabad. My timeline is as follows,
I 130 at delhi Mar 28th 2008
Got approval same date
Got Packet 3 from chennai with Case number April 8th 2008
sent DS 230 part 1 and DS 2001 to Chennai April 12th 2008
Still waiting for interview call.I will email Chennai to get interview date.

Anyone in similar status, do u guys think i will get interview in June 2008. My wife , who is the USC is still a student there, so her uncle is sponsoring me. Is that fine?
And one more doubt, how long does it take after interview to actually get the passport with visa.

Thank you,
and wishing all couples the best of luck and a fast reunion.

Guys,
A bit update information from my end..

If you guys remember I had several quieries regarding Birthdate of my spouse (Recap: His birthcertficate & passport had two seperate birthdate, due to reasons known to his parents only...) we have manager to get his original birthdate changed in passport.. yuppey... with some trouble in the way, and when I say some, means way too many...

We have cleared our Police Clearance from district and passport office.

Apollo hospital, visit will be made tomorrow.

Pacaket 4, seems ready to me..
Just have few queries...hope you cal help..

My parents are co-sponsor, hence have 3 864 forms (one for myself, and two 864A for my mom & dad) my dad qualifies of 125% above poverty line, but the agent suggested if possible addres mom's income...

Their is a quesstion regarding spouse's assets (optiona) - - I had filled the information, but the agents suggested not to, but left it on us to decided... please advice... his assets would be around 16-20K $$$...

Right where that questions ends, on right side of thr form states that the total number should be 5 times (3 times for spouse) than poverty guidelines...

If I do not add his assets, I fall below in above mentioned statement...request your help in this case....
HydFaiz
Hi,
If ur husbands asstes r good enuf put them in.
Or u can any other USC or PR to get to sign another I 864 for u.
I did that i got an uncle to sign a I 864 for me. See if u can a relative to the same for u.
that way u wont even need an I 864 A from ur parents if ur relative is well above 125%.
I did that and avoided extra I 864 A forms.
Just one I 864 from my wife and one I 864 from an uncle, thats all.

Hope this help you.
Sahana

Guys feedback in one more query of mine:

I already have my parents 864A as we live in same household and 864 for mine…

DO these have to be notarized from States, or can I do them from India only??

At same time, the supporting document for 864 and 864a (bank statements, w2 and tax return of last year), should they also be original and notarized

please let me know asap.. as i have to submit these documents to vfs on may 29.
HydFaiz
just the I 864 A & I 864 forms shud b notarized, not the W 2s.
and if the sponsor is in the US then its shud b notarized in the USA.

If you are currently living in India, you are not in the same household as your parents. In that case, your parents are joint sponsors, not household members, and you need I-864s from them (or I-864 from just your dad as you say he meets it on his income alone).
CarolynRitesh
I agree with MargotDarko regarding the I-864 versus I-864A. Also, it is no longer required to get the I-864's notarized. Good Luck! smile.gif

what about supporting documents of 864 (w2, bank statements) do they have to be original and notorized?

According to the visa agent, they would be filling 864A..confused like anything.. please help..

i can ask them to fill out 864 also but its already 26today

An independent visa agent or someone at the embassy or USCIS? If independent, I would ignore their advice on the I-864. If it was someone at the embassy, that would be harder to ignore even though technically you are not part of your parents' household if you're living in India.

The I-864 supporting documents do not need to be notorized, but originals are best. When doing the I-130 to gain an immigrant visa (CR1 or IR1), nothing needs to be notorized unless they have asked you for notarized affadivits of support from friends/family.
Sahana
confirmed with embassy that 864A has to be filled, and original is a better option,

Currently original of 864A are lost in transit for my parents, so would be submitting only duplicates (scan image)
They have mailed through DHL today only... so would be here within 3-4days....fingers crossed!
