I have a friend who also married an man from the U.S. last year. She is still living and working in Canada like I am. When they were starting to do his income tax return for 2007, they were told by the IRS and two different income tax preparers that she would also have to file a U.S. tax return even though she still lives and works in Canada because as soon as you marry an American you are required to fill out a tax return. This does not make sense that you would have to do this if you are resident of another Country and not even a resident alien yet. I can see the U.S. spouse having to claim you as a spouse explaining you were a non-resident etc. Does anyone know about this or had to do this? So confusing!!!!!!

No it does not make sense. Last year, when we were still in Edmonton, Bren filed his return, included me with no SSN and indicated with an asterisk: "spouse is non-resident alien". It was just fine.
