But sometimes those with gigantic pics and things have useful and interesting things as well - if there was a size restriction or file size restriction on images then that would be much better...
Chuck and Rose anyone? I have to scroll sideways to read every post
I guess BBcode allowances could be reduced but it is difficult to link to useful sites or posts then as well...
I am super annoyed by that one in particular. I mean, I don't mind pics, but surely there must be a better way to display them? Or at least have the option to turn off only the ones that bug me.

Speaking for myself, I would hesitate to bug a mod for something like an oversized sig. It smacks of running and telling mom. I'll bug a mod if I feel like we Pictcairn Islanders are being harassed by members of former colonies who like to shove that fact in our still-colonized faces (I'm looking at you Canada!), but I think it's a bad idea in general to run to the mods whenever I don't like something that somebody else does. Likewise, I don't like contacting other members about things like that. I asked someone about 6 months ago if they wouldn't mind re-sizing their sig so that my browser didn't side-scroll, and they told me to just re-size my browser. They also said nobody else was complaining and that I should mind my own damn business. Come to think of it though, he might have been Canadian.

QUOTE(mox @ Mar 28 2008, 12:48 PM)

Would it be possible to code an option to disable signatures on a per-user basis? I.e., you can turn off my signature if you don't like it, but still display everyone else's sig.
I like seeing most people's signatures. Many people have good information in their sigs, and the timelines are interesting too. I don't even mind some of the larger images. But I absolutely can't stand the "meez" avatars. If you use them or like them, more power to you, I'm sure you're a very nice person. I don't hate you. But I hate your avatar. The animations are distracting and annoying.
Since I use Firefox, I have taken to just blocking images from the meez server in my browser. But recently some users have taken to moving their avatar images to services such as Photobucket. So now I have to block Photobucket, which I really don't want to have to do.
So if we could just turn off signatures on a per-user basis, that would be really nice. Is this doable?
Out of respect for my friend Mox, and the fact that it was gettin' sorta old anyway, my "MEEZ" avatar is gone forever. Maybe we start an "anti-MEEZ" revolution!

As I told you in my PM, the Pitcairn Islanders believe that the image in my sig of Chief Waponi peeing on a photo of Stephen Harper is a sign of
respect. I think you need to be more sensitive to the nuances of other cultures. Anyway I took it down because some moderators also aren't culturally sensitive.

I like to see people's sigs, it's a handy reference for lots of stuff, but the big pictures and the meez.... well they are just awful. Simply turning off pictures for the site makes it hard to navigate, and turning off sigs means that that quick reference for timelines etc is gone.

Also.. it really sucks that I get my spangly new interview date on it and it is more important than the earlier stuff yet will stay on there less time than my NOA1 date

And!!! Has anyone figured out a way of "tabbing" across from a line of text so I could have two timelines side by side? That would be awesome... because of my OCD nature I have tried putting the info into tables but I can't find the perfect shade so it isn't a white box - when I print screen and use the dropper tool in photoshop it comes out darker than it is in the forum and so does the text

The bottom line is you're never going to please everyone!
Personally I have signatures turned off, but I have seen limits re. dimensions and file size implemented on many other forums to great success. I did quite enjoy reading people's timelines or looking at the odd photo (
especially of cats!

) but the signatures that were really large or full of many pictures were just too many to ignore.
I still have a signature as I said when I first joined the boards that I'd help Jeraly recruit people for the Facebook groups and then another forumer asked that I include a link to Igor's list as he always knew where to find me.

All signatures should be banned, including the timeline ones, except ones of kitties and they should be compulsory for all, even if they have no cats of their own. If that is the case then cat ownership should be put in the TOS! Not having a cat is against the TOS!

Kim/Russ - is there even a way to create those spaces without using a table then adding the bbcode for an image file? I can look up the html code for a tab if that would work, even if it does look like a swear word blanked out with %^$ etc

Or failing that then the html colour code for the board background so it matches in my siggie

No. You have to save the table as a jpg image so you can't just place one over the other. HTML does not work on these boards. BB does have code for tables to be used in forums but it's not available here. Somehow I think that would make the problems discussed in this thread much, MUCH, worse!
Instead of photoshop, you could use word to create your tables. That may make it easier for you to edit. Getting the hex for the forum colors is easy enough.

Let me know if I can help you.

Yes, you could do that. Create a new photoshop doc with a transparent background and just use the text tool for your timeline and/or drag images into it. If you have CS you can use the magic/background eraser tool to get rid of image backgrounds.

I really think this idea should be readdressed and given some serious consideration. There have been some recent events on the boards here where obnoxious signatures are commented on and the responses from the offenders are rude and inappropriate. They'll even make their sig pics even more obnoxious. I like some sigs, but would greatly appreciate being able to turn off user sigs as needed, rather than miss out on all sigs.
