أطلقت "جلوبال باتريوت" – وهي سفينة متعاقدة لفترة قصيرة مع قيادة "سيليفت" العسكرية بالبحرية الأمريكية – طلقات تحذيرية على قارب صغير عند اقترابه من السفينة وذلك أثناء استعداها للتوقف المؤقت بقناة السويس مساء يوم الاثنين. ويبدو أن أحد الطلقات التحذيرية تسببت في مقتل مواطناً مصرياً في هذا القارب.

اقتربت عدة مراكب من "جلوبال باتريوت" أثناء استعداها للتوقف المؤقت بقناة السويس. وقد تم تنبيه المراكب وتحذيرها من خلال متحدث باللغة العربية بوضوح بالاستعانة بمكبر صوت حيث طُلب منها الابتعاد عن السفينة. تم بعد ذلك إطلاق إشارة نارية ضوئية تحذيرية. واصل أحد المراكب الصغيرة الاقتراب من السفينة وتم إطلاق مجموعتين من الطلقات التحذيرية.

تخضع الواقعة الآن للتحقيقات. وتتعاون قيادة الأسطول الخامس للبحرية الأمريكية بالكامل مع السلطات المصرية بما في ذلك وزارة الدفاع وهيئة قناة السويس والسلطات المحلية الأخرى وكذلك السلطات القومية من خلال السفارة الأمريكية بالقاهرة. وإننا نعرب عن أعمق تعازينا لأسرة الفقيد.

The "Global Patriot," a ship on short term charter to the US Navy's Military Sealift Command, fired warning shots at a small boat approaching the ship as it was preparing to transit the Suez Canal Monday evening. It appears that an Egyptian in the boat was killed by one of the warning shots.

The "Global Patriot" was approached by several boats while preparing to transit the Suez Canal. The boats were hailed and warned by a native Arabic speaker using a bullhorn to warn them to turn away. A warning flare was then fired. One small boat continued to approach the ship and received two sets of warning shots.

The incident is under investigation. The US Navy's Fifth Fleet Command is cooperating fully with Egyptian authorities, including the Ministry of Defense, the Suez Canal Authority and other local authorities, as well as the national authorities through the US Embassy in Cairo. We express our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased.

its really so sad story and the most sad thing is no one in the Egyptian government comment that accident or said any thing about it

what exactly is there for them to comment about? to recap the story, several boats approached this ship and were warned away. warning shots were fired. what were you expecting to happen, someone greeting them with lollipops and unicorns? do you by any chance remember the uss cole?

but anyway i think American full his pockets enough he is our president since 1981
which mean the USA paying for them since 27 years ago so i think they gave him enough
its his time to do something to Egyptian people before he go to hell lol

My concern is for my Husband in that region. BTW he's ok.

But to give you a comparisson about the situation. Here in my region we have river rafters. There was a rancher firing his rifle on his shooting range in a canyon and the bullet richocheted off and hit a young man that was rafting the river. No one knew what hit him and the boy eventually bleed to death because life flight was unable to get into the windy canyon.

The point is accidents happen and when it's someones time it's someones time. It wasn't about Egyptian vs. American at all. It just happened to be a coinciedence in this case that the two parties involved were from different nationalities. The Americans had no intention of killing anyone friendly.
