Do they have any clue about what they are doing in Texas? First let petition it there forever, then transfer new applications to CSC, then transfer new applications to VSC, then transfer old application to VSC, and finally keep new applications in TSC!

Well I'm going to make an appointment and try to get my passport stamped as soon as my GC is expired... (I'll try to think of a good excuse) if I don't get the stamp i'll at least want the officer to tell me the current status and (maybe) give me a tracking number i can actually use.

I figure if I can get the stamp, then from that point I won't care too much! if I then dont hear anything before next january then i'll be just filing for citizenship... and at that point they'll just have to dig my file out of whatever service center it's getting fossilized at and send it to my local office for ajudication.

Well, I am going to need the NOA or the stamp in 2 months time to renew my driver's license so I sure hope I get one or the other. I really don't relish the thought of having to go to USCIS and try to convince them to give me the stamp if I don't have the NOA yet. Big Sigh. I guess it was just too much to hope that USCIS could speed up at least one of my applications. Let's see, we started this process in June, 2003; married in June 2004; applied for AOS July 2004; AOS approved end of May 2006; applied to remove conditions end of Feb 2008, conditions removed . . . . .? Going on 5 years and counting now.

Hey girl! Glad you're joining us. I wish someone would get an NOA or biometrics letter soon so we wouldn't have to make Infopass appointments. I know you guys don't want to have to drive to Atlanta either (MaryandMian are in B'ham and have to go there too) as it sure does take time off work, gas money, food money, and hotel money - UGH! Since we moved to Tampa we have a local office about 30 minutes away which will be much easier for us.

I'm curious though.

Why is your drivers license expiring? I got my license and it expires in 10 years??? Same with SS# / Nothing on SS# on expiring..

why do you exactly need a stamp for?

The DL expiry varies from state-to-state.

In some states the License is only valid until the expiry of the USCIS document that you show them prooving status (or 2 years if no expiry date) - I know that was the case in Florida...

However, other states do not have this rule and so give you a regular (10 yrs) DL.

Another thing that happens sometimes is that the person at the DMV will sometimes make a mistake and give you a 10 yrs DL when they should not.

In any event - some people therefore have a DL that expires when their greencard does... hence the need to be able to proove status to the DMV in order to get a renewal.

Does that explain things?

I got my Driver's License in August 2004 and it expires on my birthday (June) 2008 about 4 weeks after green card expires. I don't know why it is only for 4 years but it is. Everything seems to be expiring this year - my military ID expires in August and my old passport was due to expire in April - although I got that renewed very quickly.

I'm with you, I wish we would all start getting our NOA's. Dan really needs his AOS for work. He's been wanting the company to give him a run to Canada. Good miles = good money and as a bonus might get to visit a couple of hours with family. Last week the company finally sent him to Canada. They finally start sending him to Canada & now he's not going to be able to go because he don't have his NOA.

When exactally can we make an infopass appointment? Do you have to wait until the 2-year GC expires to make the appointment? Or can we go ahead and make the appointment now for the day after the GC expires?

Mitzi: You can go on the site and make the appointment at any time and with you guys I would do it TODAY because you can always cancel. When we didn't get Keith's EAD after he came here I scheduled an appointment about two weeks before his 90 days was up and we fortunately got his EAD in the mail TWO DAYS before our scheduled Infopass so I just went on the computer and canceled it. Be SURE to keep your confirmation number so you can go in and cancel if need be - you have to have that. I think you can actually schedule Infopass possibly up to two weeks before the appointment and that way you can try to get the time you want - I wouldn't wait until a few days before as the date you might need might be filled up. Let me know if you make one.

Mitzi: Question. I just noticed on your post above you have the dates of sending your I-751 02/26/08 and checked cashed 03/06/08; but under your Dan&Mitzi SN on your most recent post under your signature you have you sent it on 02/06/08 and it was recv'd 02/11/08. Which dates do I go by for our list? Also, did you double-check the back of your check to see if indeed TSC cashed it (even though TSC received it) as most of the I-751s that were sent the beginning of February (if your 02/06/08 is the real date) were transferred out and show they were cashed by another service center (Vermont, I think).

OK now.. this actually make me feel better coz I thought my NOA has lost in the mail... not a good news anyway I'm going to Canada in May and I need my extension before then!!! I also need to know if I'm going to get extension so I can buy a ticket now!!!

The officer at the appointment can look up cases in the system by your A number - he can at least verify that they received it and have it in the system... it will not only stop you panicing, but might even give you a reference number.

Sorry for the confusion. I did send the package in on 02/06/08 but they sent it back to me on 02/26/08 because my stupid self forgot to sign the form. I signed it & send it it back the same day. Check was cashed by TSC on 03/06/08. So go with the 02/26/08 & 03/06/08 dates.

* Mailed USPS Overnight - Thurs 7th March = My 87th day - Yes, I know that's dumb.
1st delivery attempt failed - they 'left notice' - Friday, 8th March; (Only discovered the TSC clears their PO Box at stupid o'clock in the morning by checking these forums ... after this all went wrong.) It's clearly discrimation against innocent procrastinators!
Green card ran out - Sunday, 9th March;
USCIS signed for my package on Monday, 10th March ... One day late.

Well I had my Infopass appointment in Houston Today...

And I have the following to report:

1) I got the I551 stamp in my passport for the full year - no problem at all... I told the officer I needed it for employment reasons for proof of status, she then asked if I had a passport and stamped it for me immediately with no issues.

2) The officer also gave me a piece of paper with my "trackable" receipt number on - I just typed this in online and HURRAAAAAH it works! for now it looks like my case is indeed staying in Texas!

The only downside about the visit is that I had to wait right next to the deportation office and there was a very upset individual arguing very loudly there right infront of it... on the bright side that made the whole process go very quickly... I was in and out within 20 minutes...

I have a question, what papers did you need to take for your infopass appointment, I made an appointment just incase for april 15, and I don't know what type of papers should I take with me

Jamieswith: YEAH! Glad everything went smoothly. I don't suppose they had any encouraging words on Texas' progress otherwise? We still have until May 12th before Keith's GC expires - wondering if we will get an NOA or biometrics letter by then. Congrats!

I took: My Passport, My Greencard and a copy of the front/back of the cashed check which I used to pay for the filing fees.

Nothing encouraging... When the deportation guy was kicking up I made the comment that I do not envy them their Job...

The officer then responded that many people hate immigration as much if not more than the IRS.

I told her that I didn't exactly like immigration the entity - that I thought the system is a bit broken, but that I didnt hold anything against the employees who have to deal with it.

She agreed and commented that unless things speed up somehow it's likely that I'll be able to apply for citizenship before they get done with my application (I'm eligable Dec 30th to apply)

I don't think that's what you wanted to hear is it? lol

Still it leaves open the possibiity that they might speed things up... somehow lol - oh come on! we CAN dream people! lol
