Its a complete joke!

Seriously!

When I did type in online the trackable number that I was given by the officer, the status showed that on 3/12 they mailed me ---something--- - but I do think that if that was true that I would have received it by now!

At least now I have my stamp to prove status (and the stamp has the same validity that the NOA-1 letter would anyway) and a trackable number saved in my online profile (for those loverly email updates)

I can delay worrying about their inefficiencies for a while - I plan to apply for citizenship before my stamp expires anyway...
Peter
Im debating about going and getting a stamp. sigh.

In my case the office is literally 5 mins from where I work (20 mins from where I live) so it was well worth it.

It all depends on how far away your local office is - where would your local office be?
Kathryn41
Well, my green card is still valid until mid May so I won't try and get the stamp until the end of April which I think should be long enough to prove to them that the NOA isn't coming and that I need the stamp - which I will - to renew my driver's license.

Yeah...

TBH - I've almost written off this I-751 process - now I'm just looking toward being able to apply for citizenship... on the road to eventually be completely clear of this whole immigration mess...
Kathryn41
Well, it is over a month since I mailed my application so I called the Customer Service line this morning. I got right through to Larry who was very polite and actually helpful. He said right away that he needed to transfer me to an immigration official as he couldn't answer my question. So, I spoke to a lady who didn't give her name and again she was helpful. She confirmed that the cheque was cashed on the 10th and said that generally it is a month after the cheque has been cashed that is important, not a month after mailing and if I still did not have my NOA by the 10th to call back and she would put through an inquiry. I asked about my case file number and she gave me the one from the cheque first. I said that one doesn't give me any information and I can't register it on the online status site. She actually smiled (I could hear it in her voice) and said, 'no, you're right - that is the number that we can use, this is the number for your biometrics file' -and she gave me that number. It is definitely a SRC number so the file is staying in Texas.

So, I went and registered the new number on the online status site and it shows that my file was last touched March 12. It also states that a notice was mailed - but I don't believe that and expect I am going to have to phone back on April 10th. At least I have my file number and could print out the information. It is strangely reassuring to know that that file number already exists as well - I know it is not lost in the black hole, even though it is in the black hole of TSC.

Mine showed March 12th as the "touched" date - but this morning it now shows March 19th as the 'touched' date - which is very odd to me - especially since it only just (On the morning of April 2nd) updated to say this!

You think it's a belated April Fool's Joke from USCIS? lol

goofy.gif Well, I guess that is a "little" more encouraging. Do you happen to still have the customer service number handy? I could try to look it up, but if you have it right there would you mind posting it? I will wait and call in a couple weeks, a month from when my check was cashed. Thanks for the update. goofy.gif

Here is the number: 1-(800) 375 – 5283 You go through all of these options until the last option is number 2 - filed a case and haven't received an NOA. It gives you a recorded message that says it will take 15 weeks - I just punched the number 1 and it said it would transfer me to a person. It did.

Jamieswith- maybe it means that they are processing your NOA as of the 19th and it is only 2 weeks delayed in the mail instead of a month:-).

hehehehe, I know. I was being somewhat sarcastic there, actually!

I was actually quite impressed with how polite they were and how quickly they did get me what I asked today. They agreed that the NOAs should be out quickly and that I definitely needed it for the I-751. I guess I was willing to see it might be reasonable to allow a month after the cheque was cashed before I started to make 'noise'. I did tell her that the other Service Centers did not have the same problem as Texas did in getting NOAs out in a timely way, and she said, 'Yes, I know' so I felt good that she at least recognized that. Do I expect to see the NOA before the 10th? No, I don't but I sure would like to be pleasantly surprised.

Its telling that the primary applicants are not getting their NOAs from TSC at the moment - the one person that has A NOA - its for a child, not for the primary applicant..

I'm not feeling overly optimistic about the process at TSC right now... I too would like to be optimistic... but I don't get that feeling right now...

But, to be honest, as of now I have a stamp in my passport with the same validity as the NOA would have... and that will take me beyond the time when I can apply for citizenship... so actually I'm not too worried... I'm happy to let it sit and fester at USCIS... because ultimately I am going to apply for citizenship - and guess what? The evidence required is almost identical! so the filing there will be pretty easy, and pretty much just an update on my I-751 package... other than coming up with the filing fees it's going to be pretty easy... and supposedly the process will be oh so much quicker and easier (yeah right) thanks to our fee increases!

Thanks for the "Welcome" ... but (as probably everybody else around here) I was always hoping I wouldn't have to "join" a group like this one here. no0pb.gif After all, we all were hoping that our case would be different and would receive an appropriate processing time. But I guess we all learned our lesson at some point while dealing with the USCIS. And now, where I realize that I'm not special at all, I'm glad to know that there are other people out there that have the same problem I have! yes.gif
Peter
Quick heads up.

I called USCIS and both people were extremely friendly. I was told that everything is ok with my application and gave me the SRC #. Unfortunatly, that SRC# is not pulling up in the system so i guess I'll have to call in again or just wait for the Biometrics letter. He asked if I have gotten my extension letter and i advised no. He stated that if i dont see it shortly, then I should just make an info pass appointment to get my passport stamped. He basically just told me to keep an eye out for the biometrics appointment. Should be in the mail shortly.

Thats good. I was worried about the money order not cashing and what not. At least now i know that its in the works and have nothing to worry about.

Welcome to our family of pain.
Kathryn41
Oh that is good Peter. Yes, they gave me the cheque number first and I said that one doesn't work, did they have another number, the one that would be used for the biometrics, and that is when she gave me my real case number. It might be a policy that they only give that number out when really asked about it specifically. The good news is that you know your file has been accepted:-).

I called the USCIS office as well and talked with two officers. They transfered me to an officer in California and he gave me the first number on our check that is invalid and I told him it did not work. I explained the bio letter usually had a different number and he questioned me on my knowledge and put me on hold and came back with the correct number. He told me that the end of March they had sent me a letter and that I should have it in a few weeks. He also told me that husband could apply for citizenship probably before our case completed his timeline was up to 15 months. headbonk.gif Just what you want to hear. When I checked my status online the case was touched on March 14th and supposedly transferred. Will have to wait and see. I will update once I have something in hand that can validate the transfer.

Shari call them and hopefully you will be able to get your case number.

Mary

goofy.gif Mary - you are transferred to California??? I wonder why when the others that called seem to be staying in Texas. I thought California would be good to transfer to, but if they told you 15 months then I guess it doesn't matter if we stay in Texas or transfer to California. And like everyone else has said, Citizenship will come before the I-751 is approved. I will call tomorrow and post what they tell me then. goofy.gif
MaryandMian
Case status says Vermont. The officer did not tell me it was online when I put in the correct number.
Shari
goofy.gif MaryandMian are now transferring to Vermont, crying.gif , but rather than take them off the list, I might just show they were transferred in case we get other transfers (unless you guys think they should come off the list altogether - let me know). goofy.gif

We might all end up transferred - lets keep em here for now lol

One question tho - what were their 3 letters on the back of their Check? you know how we had VLC?

This is how I know the status of my case from this in the online profile. The extra numbers on my check were TDB02 and initials FC.

goofy.gif Well crap, I just called the Customer Service line and they wouldn't tell me anything. The lady was nice, but said that since I had only filed one month ago today, I needed to wait at least another week before I called back to check on biometrics. I told her I had spoken to a few people that had called Customer Service yesterday and were given their biometrics file # so they could access the computer, but she told me that "we can't pull up personal information" and to just wait. I asked her could she tell me if we were transferred or not, and she again said to wait and call back next week, that they couldn't give me any personal information. I don't know if I should try to call later in the day or not and hopefully get someone else. You guys that called yesterday, did you just ask for your status? Maybe I'm using the wrong wording of what I'm asking for. Bummer! goofy.gif

I don't know. I definitely have the TDB02 on the back of the check but the online status clearly states that my application is at the Texas Service Center - no changes there since that was posted on March 12. Who knows? It also says that they mailed me a notice - well, their pony express rider must be walking that notice from TSC to here is all I can say.

Well I don't think even the pony express would take this long... i think it's more a case that it's being delivered by hand.... by a quadruple amputee who is dragging himself along the ground using his nose.

It really stinks that you ended up with an employee who was either having a bad day... or knew nothing that they were talking about... sad... I'd try again if I was you.

I'm going to call back today and get my other src number and see if i got transfered.

goofy.gif Crapola again! This time I got Christina at Customer Service who was very nice, put me on hold, tried to look up my # and couldn't so she transferred me to the National Service Center. That women was nice BUT wouldn't give me any information because I am only the petitioner, not the applicant. She said Keith would have to call. She did tell me when she put our # in it worked and that sometimes it would not show up on my computer for up to four weeks (which now we know is wrong as it will be a different number). I tried to ask her if we were staying at the TSC or transferring out, and she again said she couldn't tell me. UGH!!!!!!!!! goofy.gif

When you call, what do you have to tell them inorder for them to know which case is yours? only name is enough??? or do i need something else?

goofy.gif Call 1-800-375-5283. There will be prompts. To get to a real person, push the prompts in the following order: 1, 2, 2, 6, 2, 2, 1. Then someone will come on and ask you questions first (can't really even remember what they were, something like are you checking on a case already filed, etc.). I think she said at the end did I have a case # that I got off a canceled check to which I answered I did, but it did not show up on the system. She then asked for the # and I gave it to her. That is all I needed, but again, she transferred me to the National Service Center and they wouldn't help me because I am the petitioner, not the applicant (I still don't understand why when I filled out the form and signed it, etc.). Anyhow, I think someone else on here wrote that they didn't have their SRC number of the check and they had to give the officer the A#. Let us know how your call goes. Good luck! goofy.gif
Kathryn41
I really stressed to both individuals I talked to that I had filed an I-751 and did not have the NOA and that the NOA was necessary because it extends my legal status in the US. I said that I know that the recorded message says 15 weeks but that was unacceptable as I would have no way to prove my status to my employer or renew my driver's license and could even end up in legal problems if I could not prove I was here legally. Both were very understanding of the situation.

When I was transferred, I was asked if I had a copy of the cheque and I said yes, and I have the number on the back of my cheque. I also explained that I know that the number doesn't work to check the status for the I-751, that the application is changed to a CR189 and that has a different number, that it is this number that is assigned with the biometrics, and that is the only number that will allow me to register on the USCIS status update site and search for my status update on my file. She responded yes, that was right. I asked if she had that number available and she said yes, and gave me that number. I had to provide my A# and verify name, address, date of birth at the beginning of our conversation.

It may be that they won't release that file number to any one but the applicant, I don't know. I stressed to her as well that without the NOA I have no way to prove my legal status in the US when my green card expires. She said that she could do follow up a month after my cheque had been cashed if I had not received the NOA by then.

When I got the biometrics number I was able to check my application status and it showed that they had accepted my case on March 11 which is the day after the cheque was cashed, so that is the date I will be using to determine when the month is up and I can call back. Good luck, Shari. I hope that helped.

Time will tell if it's good or bad or not - others are not having a whole lot of luck with Vermont at the moment (see the TSC to VSC transfers thread)

Fingers crossed it will be good for you though - even if Vermont is not as good as California... it still has a better track record than Texas... so... good luck!

Thanks!

Good luck with the application. Your check was cashed the day after mine:-).

I wish I knew a cheap airline for Ottawa as well:-). We flew to Ottawa not this Christmas but the one before and the best flight we could find was on Northwest - with a changeover in Detroit. Delta did offer some direct flights but they were very expensive. Good luck! (That was out of Atlanta, btw).

goofy.gif Ok, I finally got our new case file number. So the woman I talked to this morning at the National Customer Service office said she could not tell me, she had to tell Keith, the applicant. Mine was "touched" on the 19th also... and mine says the same yours does... and it has a SRC number...

Perhaps the difference is that theirs (the ones that show it as transferred to vermont) has actually been entered in the system in Vermont... where ours is currently being used as toilet paper by the people in the mail room at VSC... lol

I wouldn't put it past them... they've done all kinds of wierd things with my applications in the past... e.g. did you know they actually managed to approve my I-485 without marking my I-130 approved? lol - Yep, that's right! according to the system it's still pending - last "Touched" 12/27/2007 - despite the fact i've been a permanent resident since 3/30/2006! lol

Yet another reason to apply for citizenship and get the heck out of this immigration system!

goofy.gif Anya: I would call and just see because it really depends on who you talk to. The first time I called I got what I thought she said was "Kay" who said it's too early to check (today was exactly one month from when I mailed it). I called an hour later and got a woman names "Christina" who was very nice and she tried to help and then transferred me. What I would do is call, answer all the questions they ask you at first, then they will ask about getting a "receipt" which is the NOA. You can tell them you did NOT get the receipt BUT you have the case number on the back of the check and it is not a valid number as you need the biometrics file number. That is when they transferred me to the National Service Center and helped me. If the first person you first talk to won't let you through, write her/his name down and call again and hang up if that person answers. I feel better that I did and didn't wait a week. goofy.gif

Hi Shari, using the phone number you gave, I spoke to "Ben", after a few questions he transferred me to NSC. There I was asked a few more questions and given two numbers, and told the cheque was cashed on the 13th the application entered the system 17th. She didnt tell me it was transferred, that showed when I added it to the online account. It was also "touched" on the 24th. Both numbers start with SRC. The one on the back of the cheque must be the biometrics one. She also told me to get the stamp, when I told her I had flights booked for next month, now all I have to worry about is getting the biometrics letter while I am away.

goofy.gif Snip> Now, this is dated March 12th though it was "touched" (last updated) on March 19th, but he told me on March 19th it was transferred out, so I'm not really sure where we are. It could have been transferred, but then why isn't it updated on the computer. Are all case # starting with SRC Texas numbers? Jayde (and Mary if you are still reading this thread), was your case for Vermont something other than SRC? goofy.gif

In our case we got a second SRC number and that is the one that showed up online. It also was dated for March 14th and the status showed that it was transfered on that date to VSC and no touches since.
