Hi everybody!

So, here it is ... my wife attempted several times to get any information from USCIS regarding my case ... but they refused to give it to her since she is just the petitioner, so we had to wait until I came home from work to try again. After a long wait on the phone, we finally got some information and my tracking number. As it turns out, I got transferred to Vermont as well (I updated my timeline), and of course, I was supposed to receive a notice about it, which, of course, I never received.

But anyway, at least I know whats going on now and made an Infopass appointment for the 25th of April in Louisville in order to get my passport stamped. I will keep you guys posted!

Thanks for adding me. From the looks of all the timelines we will be having to drive to Atlanta for an infopass appointment. That sucks! I'll have to take off work and it's a 3 1/2 hour drive. It wouldn't help to wait for biometrics since last time that was in Charleston.

It's looking like the odds of getting transferred are about 50/50. It would be interesting to see if they are doing it based on where a person is located, but I doubt it because a friend of mine got transferred and they're in Florida. It makes me curious what the criteria actually is for a transfer.

Have any of you ever looked online at government jobs? I did a few weeks ago and they had about 125 jobs posted for immigration office workers accross the US. What really sucks was that they aren't paying very good. I honestly don't know how they expect to fill the jobs when they are high stress and they aren't offering a decent wage. It sure made me more patient with the people we have to deal with knowing that they aren't very well paid and they are way overworked.

Last time we went in for info pass it was in the same place for the interview but the biometric was in a different location but it's still in Charlotte (just like 10 mins drive) so it'll make a lot more sense to drive to Charlotts once and get everything done.. I think i'll call and make an infopass tomorrow... and hope they understand the situation...

Oh yeah, isnt there an NOA that we should be looking for? I'da thought it'd come before the biometrics, but I'm wrong?

I want to make an infopass... went to www.infopass.uscis.gov and there's no option for me (or may be I just dont know what to choose) and call the service center and never got to speak to a person.. or may be i press the wrong choice again.. so... anybody know how to make an infopass to get an extension stamp?

Select the option "You are a new Permanent Resident and have not yet received your Permanent Resident Card" -- that will get you the appointment for the stamp. It may sound a little off (b/c you do have your conditional card), but it's the right one.

I just got someone and she told me to just do it through the website so I just did... put Other service in there and got what I want

I hope 1 hour is enough time to do the infopass coz they dont have anything later than 10 (my bio) and I just dont want to wake up at 5am

Bram is not going with me to the biometrc so he wont be there for the infopass to get the stamp either.. so that's ok right? that I go alone? Just want to make sure!

But ofcourse he will be there for the interview.

Not me... but thankfully I do have the stamp in my passport.

I'm very surprised you two haven't gotten biometrics notices yet since they seemed to be flying out the past couple of weeks. I wonder if it has anything to do with what part of the country you guys are in and that those biometric centers are backed up and that they don't mail out the notices until they have your scheduled within a month from the notice. Has anyone else (that you know of) in the area you live on our list gotten a notice?

Well I went back and looked at what people have listed for the local office and seems Kathryn41 is also at Atlanta so I guess what I said doesn't make any sense since she got her biometrics and she filed after you, though you were transferred to Vermont and she might still be staying in Texas it looks like. I'm not sure where Peter's local office is though as it is not listed.

Ok Mitzi - how did it go? Did you guys get the stamp? Are you staying in Texas or being transferred to Vermont? Anything else we need to know? I misplaced your email address as I was going to email you to ask so email me or post on here please.

sorry I am not mitzi but I do have an infopass at Miami tiomorrow, when i was just reading what to take with us, there on their site, they ask for passport photos, has anyone needed them for an i551 stamp.

I am taking the appointment letter, the cashed cheque, the greencard, passport and itinerary for our trip o/s next month


is there anything you can think of, that I should also take?

and what is ADIT, that they talk about?

Yeah, I saw that about the passport photos and wondered why they asked for them. I can't answer any of your questions but Jamieswith got his stamp a week or so ago so maybe he will post and let us all know.

Passport photos are only required if your passport is expired, lost or will expire soon.

I guess they tell people in general to bring photos to cover their bases - so they don't get people misunderstanding and not bringing them because there is some "I do not have a valid passport with me that you can put the stamp on Mr immigration officer" situation that was not listed.

They use the photos to attach them to a special I-94 containing your stamp - as a substitute for stamping a current, valid and readable passport where one is not available.

I took just the following:
1) Passport (In good condition and valid for plenty of time yet)
2) Current (expired) greencard
3) Printout of front/back of cleared check (from online banking) that was used to pay for the I-751
4) Printout of my infopass appointment
5) A smile and a polite, concise explanation as to why i needed the stamp (in your case you might bring the suggested evidence in case they give you trouble) - I simply explained I needed to prove my status, I didnt have the NOA yet, and my greencard just expired.

Could someone please add that our check was cashed today? I don't want to try and mess up the very nice table others have worked hard to create. Also, could someone please direct me to a post that explains what the code on the back of the check means?

What does the code mean?

Part of it is an identification number internal to USCIS which identifies to them your I-751 application, but is not useful to you for tracking purposes...

Part is account numbers where the check was deposited.... and the date etc....

Part confuses the heck out of us - some conspiracy theories state it's encoded instructions on how to do a secret handshake at USCIS offices in order to have TSC NOT loose your application for years on end.... but we've yet to have that confirmed....

It was so nice to have 2 years of not actually waiting for anything from USCIS... that went by quickly.

Thanks for the laugh! I have a SRC number and in the deposit account info it was deposited into the Texas Service Center account but I guess that doesn't tell me yet if we'll be transferred or not?

I was reading about applying for naturalization and wanted to ask if I am understanding correctly. Can my husband apply for citizenship 3 years from his date of entry into the US, even if he came on a K1 so didn't have a green card for about 7 months after he got here? from what I read on the USCIS website that's the impression I'm getting, but don't want to get my hopes up too high.

He can apply three years from the date of his green card, actually 90 days before the three years on the date of his green card; so just like you have applied for this I-751 90 days before his two year green card expires, basically you can apply for citizenship the same time next year.

Our infopass was successful I now have my extension stamped in my passport, phew

The Miami office was extremely efficient, we had to return to the car to leave the phone with a camera, as it wasnt allowed, so after going through security we were given a number. The screen showed they were calling about 20 numbers before mine, then the 20 cubicles seemed to all come alive and after 15 minutes we were called.

The officer hardly questioned the need for the stamp. When I said we had applied to texas to lift the conditions and that the cheque was cashed he reached for my passport saying we would NOT be getting a NOA, but didnt say why. He wrote the receipt number down for me, for tracking and also told me later in the year that they are opening sub offices, closer to us so we wont have to drive to Miami next time. He thought it would take 12 months to be approved!!

Although we covered all our bases by taking everything they asked for and then some, all we needed was the appointment (mine had a dodgy barcode and i was asked if I was manuel, lol), the greencard and passport.

Hope this helps the next one who needs a stamp for either travel or employment, oh and it expires 12 months from the day it is stamped.

Does anyone know if the 10 year greencard is 10 years from the 2 year expiry date?

Jayde: Glad everything went well. So did they take your GC like we've heard they do? I saw on another thread talk of this and that since you are always supposed to carry your GC, if they take your GC to get the I-751 stamp, you will always have to carry your passport. UGH!

Answering Yes to Hubby was allowed in too, which is always good for a laugh because he has a pacemakery thingamajig and cant go through the normal security because he may get zapped, and lots of other couples were there too.

And no, they didnt take my green card, and when I asked should I show both he said yes (he already had complained that the stamp wasn't easy to read on the "pretty pages" of my passport.)
and ps although he seemed to be accessing my file, there is no 'touch' showing

You would probaby need to carry the passport anyway, if the greencard is expired (and you normally follow instructions to carry the greencard at all times)

Here's just a quick update.

I had my Biometrics this morning - all in all it went well.

We arrived 30 minutes early, and they had finished almost everyone from the previous slot, so I was allowed in and was actually done before 10am! just a shame the drive to get there through trafic took 1.5 hours!

And then ANOTHER update.... when I got home my case status online had been "touched" with todays date, as I expected.... but then, an hour later I got another email: Our case has been TRANSFERRED now to Vermont - literally 3 hours after doing my biometrics they transferred me to vermont... very strange lol

Well, interesting!

I have my biometrics tomorrow at 2 pm. I have been warned to expect a several hour process, however the ASC closes at 4 so I am not sure that means they expect to be finished at 4 or what. I wonder now if I will be transferred to VSC as well once the biometrics are done. I'll let everyone know what - if anything - happens.

Time flies. This board has provided a lot of helpful info to me. I am gonna try to contribute as much as I can.
Here is my timeline update.
I filed my I-751 to TSC by express mail on 04/04/08 (Fri). They received it on 04/07/08(Mon). Check was cashed on 04/08/08.
Received my Biometris appointment letter on 04/18/08. Bio test is scheduled on 05/03/08. Still no NOA yet.
Can anyone tell me what NOA looks like? Thanks and good luck.

I contacted USCIS again yesterday and talked with immigration officer Martinez about not getting a NOA or anything yet. He informed me that their is a glitch in the system just like California had last fall for the I-130s. He said that NOAs were not coming and that if I needed a stamp to go to my local office in Atlanta via INFOPASS which I already knew. He said if you did not get the NOA the bio letters were still being sent out from the USCIS office your case was located.

Well, I just got back from getting my biometrics (I had a few stops along the way back VBG). I was expecting the worse because of other dire experiences VJers had recently had at the Atlanta ASC but this was the easiest time yet! The biggest problem was getting there - massive traffic delays on I-75 due to construction so what should have been a 30 minute trip took 1 1/2 hour - most of it at 10 mph or less. I pulled into a nearly empty parking lot - expecting it to be packed to the gills - and went inside. They didn't allow me to bring my folder in so I had to return that to the car and just hand carry my identification, keys and diabetes medical kit (I don't go anywhere without it!). I filled out the forms and joined the 10 other people waiting. I sat next to a woman originally from Italy who was also getting biometrics for removal of conditions. She isn't VJer. Her lawyer submitted her I-751 5 months ago - and the first response they had received was the biometrics appointment letter that came last week. Her green card is expired already so I explained to her she could make an appointment with the Atlanta office and get the I-551 stamp in her passport. I also told her how she could look up her case status on line:-).

Anyway, I waited a total of 15 minutes (they weren't busy but they were slow!), had a painless fingerprint session with a nice Asian gentleman and that was it! I did check my on line status but there is no change to any information there yet. Maybe there will be either a touch or an update tomorrow. We will see.
