"MA-RAH MEE-AH" is the correct way to pronounce it. It is sage. Usually dried. Used to treat stomach aches. Added to tea or sometimes boiled alone with water. Herbal medicine and it states awful, but with tea is a pretty good. :-)

Burn dried sage as in smudging.

Yep, sage..I never thought I would like it in tea, until I tried it, now I have a massive bottle at home for "tea time"

(not just cooking anymore )

Tea made from helba (fenugreek) seeds is also supposed to be good for the stomach. It tastes funky if you ask me.

hmm... now I need to ask the hubby about that one. He's been cooking foods for me that are supposed to be easy on the stomach but never mentioned that one. He probably doesn't know what it's called in English or French

I can't take nausa medication because it will screw with my platelet count (a blood thing) and I've been having serious tummy problems....... I think I will pick some up on my way home today

LOL. It does look like pot doesn't it? Put it in the freezer and ask your friends to grab something out of the freezer. You'll get the look followed by a "what's this?!?!?!" :-) They let him bring it in? Wow. Interesting.

mine brought marameah with him when he came too. I love plain ole sage tea (of course with a lotta sugar) and its awesome in regular hot tea too. Prolly my favorite tea thus far has to be zaatar (thyme, i think) tea. It's also a very strange taste but really good for the tummy too. Bobonej (chamomile) is good too but we very seldom have that one.

This is funny cos Hasan was trying to use a translator when he forst got here to see if we had it in the stores and it wasn't working. So when we went to the Arabic store he was so happy when he found it and then I knew what it was.
The first thing I did was put it in a ziplock and my son asked me what it was, he is 19 and I told him it was sage so he had to open it and smell it cos he just knew that hasan was going to put it in the hooka

Moody,
Is this yellow? My SO mother was giving me this stuff called an Egyptian drink and it was yellow with seeds in it. It was funky tasting, kind of rooty and resemebled theraflu! They actually laughed and said I had to drink it, that it was rude if I didn't and I would offend her and once I did I said was is this? They said camel pee! LOL but it did make your urine smell like it for two days. Just wondering if it was the same as what you are talking about.

It's funny that not only my family makes fun of it being another Herb! LOL
t and a, nope it's green. This more a plant...the stalk and fuzzy leaves. Hilba as you stated is a seed. I hate hilba too. They put it with some pastry called Haressa that makes it taste God awful.
Anyone every had tea with crushed walnuts? They serve this in Jordan. I hate that too!
