Jenn!
You have six months to use the visa, that is, you must enter the U.S. before the expiry date on your K1. Once you have entered, a new countdown of 90 days begins, during which time you must get married.

Brother, it means you have to enter into USA with your K-1 visa no later than September 16 of this year. Once you are in the USA, you have to get married within 90 days from your arrival date and then you can start doing AOS (Adjustment of Status).
YuAndDan
K-1 is valid for 6 months after it is issued, you have 6 months to use the visa. When you enter they USA the visa is USED and is Void. You will then have 90 days in the USA to marry and adjust status.

thanks for ur help

Okay, here are the steps for you:

1. Enter into USA by September 16 with your K-1 visa.
2. Get married within 90 days as soon as you enter into USA.

Example: If you enter into USA on June 10, you need to marry your fiancee by September 9. Then you can apply for AOS at your own time, but it is better to apply for AOS as soon as possible after the marriage.

Okay, here are the steps for you:

1. Enter into USA by September 16 with your K-1 visa.
2. Get married within 90 days as soon as you enter into USA and immediately apply for AOS.

Example: If you enter into USA on June 10, you need to marry your fiancee and apply for AOS by September 9.

There is no time limit to apply for AOS no0pb.gif As long as you get married within the 90 days you can apply for AOS whenever you feel like it. Just realize that there will be travel and work restrictions.

Hi Mohamed,

What the others have told you is right - You do have a new 90 day period to get married after you arrive in the USA.

The USCIS also expects you to file your application for 'Adjustment Of Status' (AOS) within the same 90 day period, but you must have a copy of your new marriage certificate for the application package. So why not try to prepare the AOS package before the wedding so you are ready ... get married ... add some wedding pictures and a copy of your marriage certificate, send it off immediately (or after the honeymoon, if you have one). Then you can sit back and really relax for the first time in months! If the USCIS does not receive your AOS application within 90 days of your arrival, you are officially 'Out of Status' - who wants that?????

I know it all seems like a rush to get everything done now your visa has arrived ... But do try to send off the AOS application within the 90 days if you can. Some cities take many weeks to return a marriage certificate to couples after their wedding, but that's the only good reason I can think of for a late application.

One last thing - I notice you mentioned your wife and child ? If you are coming to the USA on a K-1 visa it is for fiances to enter the USA to get married ... it is not intended for husbands/wives to use .... It is much safer to call each other fiance, just in case it confuses the USCIS.

Anyway - Congratulations on your visa, by the way! energy.gif

That's a very good point. The Egyptian consulate is ok with calling her your wife because they are aware of the situation in Egypt where you weren't allowed to marry americans but when you get to your port of entry you need to remember to call her your fiance.

Good luck and sorry for being in a mood. lol

Bridget, you can be in any mood your heart desires. This process makes us loose who we really are sometimes. I am sure that although you are happy for us three today, you must feel a lot of sadness because you are still playing the waiting game and being jacked around by the Embassy.
As I said before to someone, others may take your turn, but they cannot take your time. Your season is about to come and then it will be your time. But it will come! heart.gif

Bridget while we are all very happy for everyone who gets their visa it is truly hard to sit and watch others fly through the process without even one day of checks. Especially when your wait has been sooooooo long. So we understand the different moods this process can cause. So know we all support you and pray for you everyday.....that your journey will end soon and you will be reunited with your loved one soon. Your in my prayers everyday.

I just wanted to make it clear that the ONLY stipulation is getting married within the 90 days. There is NO time limit when you file AOS. Yes, after 90 days you are out of status, but that does not affect when you apply for AOS.
